Family cottage (1823) renovated with character

In 2023, we celebrated the 200th anniversary of our chalet, which was built in 1823 in Les Mayens de Chamoson by my great-great-grandfather. At that time in Valais, many chalets were built as semi-detached units, and that's the case with ours, which is still shared by the same two families today. Since my mother inherited the cottage in the 1980s, it has been renovated bit by bit. It's an authentic place with character. The space The chalet is on 3 floors with a carnotzet and a bathroom with bathtub where the stable was at the time. On the ground floor are the kitchenette, an open dining-living room with a large balcony where you can eat in summer, a shower room with toilet and a small bedroom with a 140 × 200 bed. Upstairs there is a bedroom with two single beds and a small school desk. The view of the Ardevaz is magnificent from this room. There is also a mezzanine bedroom with a 140 × 200 bed with a desk and an antique sofa. Much of the furniture is old. The entire chalet can be heated with soapstone, if the tenants wish. That's what we do, and it works extremely well. Wood heating brings extra charm to the chalet. Wood is available to tenants. For added comfort, remote (electric) heating is activated before the arrival of the tenants. Other things to note The chalet is not recommended for small children because the spiral staircase is not protected. Equipment for small children (high chair, crib) is therefore not offered. The chalet is also not recommended for very tall people because it was built in 1823, the standards at the time were very different and the doors were lower. We made the choice not to have a TV in the old chalet. On the other hand, we have a Wi-Fi network. The chalet has remote heating but also a Pierre Ollaire that allows guests who wish to heat with wood. Ovronnaz is an ideal resort in relation to snow cover. The snow remains good very late in the season. Respectful pets welcome upon request.
