Wildpath Refuge (Walk-in/Ski-in Cabin)

Private cabin nestled in an 80 acre forest. Trade the bustle of the city for a chorus of frogs and the rustle of trembling aspen. This cabin is located on a trail network in an oak and aspen forest. The cabin is a 700 metre hike/ski (10 minute walk) away from the parking area. The space Your space is a small offgrid cabin with a woodstove for heating and cooking, a sleeping loft, covered porch with dining area and hammock, plus a ritzy indoor composting toilet, and a solar panel for limited electricity. Just a short walk away from the cabin is a woodfired sauna that you will have access to. Enjoy three kms of hiking/cross country ski trails to explore the property, whether that means bird watching, foraging wild herbs or enjoying sunsets in a meadow. Outside the cabin there is a firepit perfect for evening cook-outs and star gazing. Your sleeping space is a queen bed in a cozy loft, accessible by ladder. For additional sleeping space there is a futon in the living room, with bedding provided. The futon can accommodate 2 people, but it will be cozy, and is likely best suited for children. In the kitchen there is a beautiful woodstove with a bake oven to boil your morning coffee and bake your favorite meal. There is also a two burner propane stove on the deck for summer cooking. We will provide a water jug and additional water is available at the sauna. Important note: the cabin is run on a single solar panel which means electricity is limited to a few hours of lights in the evening or charging a phone, there is no refrigerator, but a cooler can be provided on request. The cabin is insulated and the woodstove provides ample heat to keep you cozy and warm, but please note that you will have to keep the embers burning through the coldest winter nights. There is no back-up heat, so in winter, you may need to be up several times over the night to stoke the fire. In the summer, there is no air conditioning, so it is important to keep the windows open at night to cool off, but then close them in the morning to keep the heat out. Other things to note The cabin is in nature which means you will encounter mosquitoes, wood ticks, and poison ivy in the summer. The benefits of being in the wild is enjoying birdsong in the morning and falling asleep to the lullaby of coyotes howling at night. Please note that the cabin is 400 metres away from the hosts' home and organic farm. There is a farm dog, cat, sheep, goats, and chickens on the property, and free-ranging horses in adjacent pastures. The map of the property will show which areas are available to walk through (adjacent fields/pastures etc). Crops are all organically grown (no chemicals). The town of Lundar is 15 minutes away, and a short drive from multiple beaches on Lake Manitoba. (Twin Beach, Lundar Beach, Sandpiper Beach)
