Once the island Trading Post (in the 1820's) now serves as a private retreat on Westport Island. The whole property has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982. The building is nestled at the water's edge, half on land and half on stilts over the tidal waters of the Sheepscot River. The property has its own private deck, island, rocky beach, trails and hammock. This is an old structure - over 200 years old! A great piece of history and an absolute oasis. You enter into an open living/dining kitchen area with original counters & split lathe ceiling. The building has the 1820's rustic charm with 21st century amenities - 4 burner stove/oven, slate sink, microwave wave, toaster, blender, and refrigerator. The water from the sink is perfect to drink - the entire property runs on a reverse osmosis water system. While we like to think of this property as an escape from the everyday consumption of technology, there is a TV with HDMI and a DVD collection. Perfect for a cozy night next to the fully stocked wood burning stove in the living area. It heats the place up very well, but be careful it can get hot to the touch! Two sets of sliding doors open to a large back deck that is completely over water. An outdoor seating area makes for a perfect place to watch the sunrise with a book or sunset while BBQing on the outdoor grill. There's a king bed and bathroom downstairs. The bathroom has an enclosed shower (we know it's on the smaller side - getting updated 2022!) Upstairs - open loft 2 twin beds. With the best twinkly star ceiling. The stairs to upstairs don't have a rail - be aware of this for children! We rent kayaks (3) and a paddlebord - just ask! Private island Trails Maine “beach” Dock (in renovation 2020) Private hammock and lobster buoy marked trail to Hammock Point and the former grist mill cove where 2 mill stones still remain. Great swimming spot in the cove. Car is necessary. No day visitors. We offer reverse osmosis water system.
