Description

Step into a true 1970s time capsule—where original vintage charm meets modern comfort. From retro textures to cozy details, this is a one-of-a-kind stay you won’t find anywhere else. Unwind by the firepit or explore nearby gems like the Dragon Trail, Muskegon River, and Hardy Dam. No cleaning fees—what you see is what you pay. The space If you're looking for a glamorous place to stay, this probably isn't the place for you! But, if you're looking for retro and comfortable, we've got you covered. The "Way Back" is a 1976 Holly Park mobile home that has been immaculately maintained over the years, left original in almost every way. What was once cringy 70s decor is now cool again, and the space will truly transport you. This two-bedroom home has a king-sized memory foam bed in the master, a twin with a trundle in the second room. You'll find modern comforts, like speedy wifi (600Mbps), a smart tv, and a small Bluetooth speaker, but also a vintage record player and a small selection of records. Our property is located in a small neighborhood of mostly seasonal residents, just off the banks of the Muskegon River and right around the corner from access to the Dragon Trail. While the neighborhood restricts river access to residents only, guests may access the river via a day pass (or weekend/seasonal pass) at Big Bend Campground (about a 3-minute drive to the park entrance). Grab your mountain bike or hiking shoes and spend the day exploring the Dragon Trail, or use the boat launch at Big Bend Campground to launch a kayak or motor boat (contact the campground directly for dock options if you want to leave your boat in the water during your stay). Enjoy a morning coffee or evening beverage under the covered patio, where you'll also find a gas grill for your use, or build a cozy fire in the backyard fire pit. Dragon Trail guests are welcome to park on-site early the day of arrival or remain parked on-site after check-out if you're planning to spend time on the trail the same day. Please communicate your plans with us so we can accommodate any other guests who may be checking in/out. We're also happy to accommodate early check-in or a late check-out whenever possible. Please let us know what your travel plans are, and we'll do our best to work with you. Guest access The home and yard are exclusively yours to enjoy during your stay. We can accommodate parking for up to 4 vehicles, and potentially a boat (up to 30', but please confirm with us before booking) in the driveway, which is shared with our pole barn on the neighboring lot. While we may occasionally need to access the barn during your stay, rest assured, it will not affect your use of the home, driveway, or the yard space. Other things to note As mentioned, "The Way Back" is located in a seasonally active neighborhood, and you can expect more activity during holiday weekends and special neighborhood events. We kindly ask that guests respect the community and understand that if a neighbor approaches you (they’re just a friendly group who loves to say hello), there's no need to feel defensive. Many of our neighbors have vacationed or spent summers here for years and take pride in knowing each other. The neighborhood is a lively one, with frequent social gatherings, campfires, and golf carts cruising the streets. Please drive carefully and be mindful of kids playing, biking, and folks zipping around on golf carts. A quick note: There is no public access to the Muskegon River from our home or neighborhood. Although it might be tempting, please refrain from walking on or around the docks at the end of the road as they are private property belonging to the neighborhood association. If you're interested in enjoying the river, you can access it through the nearby Big Bend Campground or other local parks, marinas, and campgrounds. Feel free to reach out if you'd like any recommendations for nearby water access! If The Way Back isn't right for you or if it isn't available for your preferred dates, please be sure to check out our other property, the "River Bend Cottage - Dragon Trail & Hardy Dam", which is right next door.
