Description
Guests have their own choice of lounges. One is more snug and has 2 sofas and a television with breath-taking views out into the bay and The Atlantic. The other is a vey big open plan kitchen and living area with 20ft top to bottom glass window looking directly out to the Atlantic and neighbouring Puffin Island and The Skelligs rocks. The school used to serve the village. The house is also 500m from the chocolate factory and St Finians Bay beach with outstanding restaurant - Driftwood The space Delightful 18th century converted school with unrivalled views out to the Skelligs. The house is in an utterly unique location and is steeped in character and history. This tranquil and majestic setting is the perfect haven of tranquillity to use as your base to explore the local area. The double en-suite downstairs room as well as our library, full of a wealth of literature, used to serve as the school classrooms for the nearby farming community of St Finians Bay from the 1800's to the 1960s. There is also a twin / double sea view room overlooking Puffin Island the entire bay and The Skelligs, as well as an additional double room upstairs above the library. Guest access Guests have access to the entire property as this is an entire private listing. There is ample parking for at least 2 cars and you can park on the grass as well as the drive. Other things to note Due to the fresh Atlantc air, you may end up sleeping really well, feeling relaxed and refreshed. The house is 10 minutes from Ballenskelligs beach, with one of the most spectacular views in Ireland overlooking Waterville and the mountain range behind. There is another nice cafe here and Sunday market. You can also explore the castle and Monk's Walk Trail. Accessing via the beach ( left at the church), and over the mountain, Portmagee, The most spectacular cliffs in Kerry and Valentia Island are a short drive away - so much to explore here - from The Cablestation at Knightstown, The Tetrapod Trackway, The Slate Quarry , Glanleamhouse, Bray Head and Geokaun Mountain - the highest point on Valentia. All are signposted and are on sat maps. The Bolus loop walk is also a 5 minute drive from the house. Turn right out of the house and take the first road on the right. If you are keen on fishing then the area cannot be beaten. From Bass and Mackerel to world-class salmon fishing on the Waterville lake. If you don't want to cook, book a table at the outstanding Driftwood just behind the beach or grab a very generous portion of fresh fish and chips from The Hake Hatch opposite the church. There are plenty of other excellent restaurants in the area. The Moorings in Portmagee, QC's (recommended in The Michelin Guide) in Caherciveen or The point seafood restaurant at Renard.
