Description

House of Jays is a private, design-forward 1974 mountain retreat tucked into the pines at 6,300 feet in Pine Mountain Club, with expansive mountain views and a calm, secluded atmosphere. The cabin blends dramatic architecture, warm natural materials, and thoughtful details to create a restorative mountain escape — ideal for slow mornings, dark skies, snow days, and quiet evenings by the fire. The space A design-forward 1974 mountain retreat perched at 6,300 feet in the pines of Pine Mountain Club. The heart of the cabin is a dramatic double-height living room with 18-foot wood mullioned windows, soaring wood ceilings, and warm afternoon light that pours through the trees. French doors open to wraparound decks with mountain views, creating an indoor-outdoor atmosphere that feels equal parts Scandinavian cabin and boutique retreat. Every detail was thoughtfully selected — from Heath tile and chocolate basalt countertops to Arcosanti bells, artisan clay tile, down bedding, and a carefully collected mix of art and objects. Whether you're cooking with friends, stargazing from the deck, taking a hot bath after the snow, or sipping cognac beside the fire, the cabin is designed to feel calm, cozy, and restorative. The living room is equipped with Starlink internet, a smart TV, Sonos speaker, board games, dartboard, and a curated DVD collection for slow evenings in the mountains. Stellar jays often visit the deck, and in the late afternoon the room fills with golden light through the trees. The kitchen was designed for people who genuinely love to cook, featuring a Viking range, Sub-Zero refrigerator, wine fridge, Heath tile, chocolate basalt countertops, bean grinder, French press, and a full collection of quality cookware, knives, spices, and cooking essentials. A secondary deck just outside the kitchen includes a BBQ grill, outdoor dining area, and telescope for stargazing. Pine Mountain Club is a designated dark sky community, making the night skies ideal for meteor showers and star watching. The main-level bathroom features a freestanding soaking tub, stone sink and counters, curated artwork, and French doors that open to a private deck — especially beautiful after hiking, snowfall, or a cold evening outdoors. The primary bedroom is an open loft with a king-sized bed, private deck, ceiling fan, sheepskin rug, and full bathroom with artisan clay tile and rain shower. The downstairs bedroom includes two queen-sized bunk beds ideal for families or groups of friends, along with reading lights, down bedding, wool blankets, sliding doors to a private deck, and a full bathroom with basalt counters and rain shower. At over 6,000 feet elevation, the cabin experiences all four seasons. Winter often brings snow and nearby sledding or cross-country skiing, while warmer months offer cool mountain evenings, hiking, fresh air, and frequent wildlife sightings. Bears occasionally wander through the neighborhood, a reminder that you are truly immersed in the mountains. The cabin is intended for guests who appreciate thoughtful design, quiet mornings, dark skies, and the slower rhythm of mountain life. Guest access The entire house is yours. Guests have access to the entire property and access to Pine Mountain Club amenities, which include golf, tennis, and swimming in summer months. Note that we can not be responsible for any club maintenance or closure issues and that there is a guest access card needed to use these amenities. $150 fee to replace the primary access card + $10 each for guest cards. Other things to note OTHER DETAILS TO NOTE ACCESS + STAIRS The cabin is accessed via approximately 80 outdoor stairs and may not be suitable for guests with mobility limitations, very young children in strollers, or anyone uncomfortable with steep mountain terrain. We recommend packing with backpacks or shoulder bags rather than wheeled luggage when possible. DECK SAFETY The property also includes multiple decks, stairways, and elevated outdoor areas, so children and pets should be supervised carefully at all times. WILDLIFE The cabin sits along the edge of the Mt. Pinos preserve and wildlife sightings are common, including deer, stellar jays, chipmunks, and occasional bears. Bears are most frequently seen during warmer months, typically in the mornings and evenings. Please never feed wildlife. The upper deck includes an electric wildlife deterrent fence commonly used in mountain areas. It can be switched on or off at the entry door and delivers a mild but noticeable shock if touched. Guests with pacemakers or sensitivity to electrical devices should use additional caution. WEATHER + SNOW At 6,300 feet elevation, weather conditions can change quickly, especially during winter months. Snow is common and chains or 4WD/AWD vehicles may occasionally be required depending on conditions. We will communicate any weather-related updates prior to arrival. During heavier snow events, access to the cabin may become difficult. In rare cases, bookings may need to be rescheduled for safety reasons. Snow shovels are provided onsite, and guest snow shoveling assistance may be arranged for an additional fee. AIR CONDITIONING The cabin does not have air conditioning. Summer temperatures are typically mild compared to Los Angeles, and the house is equipped with fans and cross ventilation. INTERNET + CELL SERVICE The cabin has fast Starlink wifi. Verizon generally has the strongest cellular reception in the area, while other carriers may rely on wifi calling. TRASH Pine Mountain Club does not offer curbside trash service due to wildlife activity. Guests are asked to bring trash to the local transfer site upon departure. Instructions will be provided prior to check-in. PARKING Parking is limited to the driveway only, with space for up to four vehicles. Street parking is prohibited by the HOA and is strictly enforced. PETS Well-behaved pets may be considered with prior approval and an additional pet fee. Pets may not be left unattended in the cabin at any time. QUIET HOURS The cabin is located in a quiet residential mountain community best suited for guests seeking a peaceful retreat. Parties, amplified music, excessive noise, filming, and disruptive behavior are prohibited under Pine Mountain Club association rules. FIRE SAFETY Mountain fire danger is extremely serious, particularly during dry months. Open fires and fireworks are strictly prohibited. CAMERAS For security purposes, exterior cameras are located at the entry points of the property. MOUNTAIN LIVING This is a true mountain environment. While the cabin is professionally cleaned and maintained, occasional encounters with insects, cobwebs, mice, bats, or other wildlife are part of life in the forest. Please notify us if anything needs attention during your stay.
