Description

Please tap the arrow for the full description Little Nag@Hikers Rest Hikers Rest, your very own private glamping village, nestled in the foothills of the Taw river valley. Imagine going camping without having to take the tent, all the cooking equipment, a BBQ or the comfy double bed! And then the idyllic getaway becomes a reality. There is extra space for 2 single beds so all you need to bring are the usual extra bits like head torches, bug repellant and a good book to read. The space In our secluded off-grid village we use regenerative energy methods for those who wish to experience a moment in time away from the fast, furious, noisy world and absorb some of natures enriching sound scapes. The Bell Tent is let as ‘empty’ - however, there are furnishings provided so as to create a degree of camping luxury; - coir matting on the floor so as to mimic an ‘indoor feel’ each tent - a double bed and a double duvet for two people - an antique table -chairs - a treasure chest with 2 heavy blankets to cuddle up with There is, however, plenty of space for you to bring roll mats / air beds, should you need to increase the sleeping capacity to its maximum of four. Extra sleeping bags would need to be brought along too, and of course your PJ’s. A most delightsome - recently installed - gas powered heated shower, tapping off the rain water collected, is available for your responsible use. With a degree of consideration for others, there is a quantity of water (enough for 8 showers) before the container has to be refilled. This is just one more activity that, being off-grid, requires regular physical input. Towels are not provided; we prefer that you bring your own. Please, when washing and cleaning, be sure to only use the biodegradable soap provided; taking care of the flora and fauna in our little eco village during the time you share this precious space with them is a responsibility we should all embrace. There are no main’s sewage services and so it is crucial that no pollutants get into the watercourse, our delicate ecosystem does not cope with harsh chemicals. You have a shared bush kitchen at your disposal that is equipped with rudimentary cooking facilities that include a gas hob for cooking a scrummy English breakfast as well as to boil water for tea/coffee. We have supplied an ice box should you need to keep chilled produce, ice is not included. You have an exclusive BBQ stand & fire pit with stream frontage as well as a games shelter furnished with a ping pong table, a dartboard & badminton rackets available for you to while away the time. There is also a supplies kiosk for basic camping provisions (including wood, charcoal, etc) to purchase. A phone charge point is available on site for your phone accessories. Our compost toilet facilities are an experience in themselves. Being off-grid creates the opportunity to work with nature; unlike at home - no flushing of drinking water is required. Just the use of wood chipping and/or cut grass is the method used to manage our bodily waste - as the name says, the contents are then hygienically deposited into a dedicated compost heap off site. Nature takes its course turning the waste into an organic matter over a minimum period of a year. Guest access Hikers Rest is located a 5 minute walk away from the car park. You’ll be assisted to the campsite by Nev who delights in accompanying our guests on arrival so as to settle you into site. Other things to note Off-grid, off the beaten track for an immersion into nature in the shadow of Exmoor that enjoys a ‘Dark Skies’ status (low light pollution). Step away from the push and thrust of our busy routines and take a moment to tap into the soundscape of birds chattering, sheep bleating and water tricking along a small stream.
