Secluded traditional stone house at the edge of Katichori / Portaria, view of Volos bay & Pilio Mountain. The estate, filled with fruit & walnut trees, is engulfed by nature (ideal for relaxation). Centrally located for the exploration of Pilion mountain & Coastal areas. 5min drive from Portaria (or trek up cobblestone paths), 20min from Volos (renowned for sea food meze & tsipouro), 25min from Chania ski resort. *please note: The house is reachable by foot only, the car stops 120m away! The space 3 bedrooms (1 queen size beds , 1 double bed, 2 single beds, 1 sofa bed) and 2 bathrooms. A large open space kitchen, dining area & living room with a fireplace make it ideal for sharing quality time with friends or family. The large veranda with view over the bay, becomes a house extension for dining & living space from spring to autumn. Quiet sitting corners in the estate offer spaces for peace and recollection, while the abundant nature is nurturing the soul. The estate, open to the mountain is ideal for nature lovers, a small stream emerging through the rock runs at the back of the plot and is frequently visited by the local wildlife. Badgers, foxes, wild boar, ferrets, squirrels & hedgehogs have been spotted on the grounds according to season. As well as an abundant variety of birds species such as woodpeckers, nightingales, owls, hawks & buzzards to name a few of the most impressive ones. Please remember that Pilion, the mountain of the Centaurs, is a protected area and offers tremendous biodiversity to be appreciated by all. Please ensure you are always respectful and observe silently from a distance, allowing animals to maneuver freely, so they may grace us with their presence just a little longer. Guest access The entire house and estate is open for the guests use and enjoyment. Please note: That our lovely house due to its location and access could be challenging for people with mobility issues and the elderly ! Other things to note The house is located at the edge of the village, the estate is unfenced and open to the mountain & forest, as such it is not uncommon to see wildlife within the grounds according to the season. It is ideal for retreating from the business of the world and is accessed through a short uphill walk up a traditional cobblestone path. Ideal for free spirited adventurous, people and nature lovers the adventure starts as soon as you leave your your car by the majestic platanus trees, near the church and Ortansies tavern. Mount Pelion was considered a magical and sacred mountain in Greek mythology. It is most famous as the homeland of the Centaurs half-man, half-horse creatures. The wise centaur Chiron lived here and trained many famous heroes: such as Achilles, Jason, Asclepius. From the veranda of the house where you can oversee the bay of Volos, you can hear the water from the Anavros River, which is a 7 min walk from the house. The Anavros River is tied to the myth of Jason, one of the most important mythical legends. According to myth, Jason lost a sandal while crossing the river Anavros. This detail fulfilled a prophecy warning King Pelias to beware of a man with one sandal. When Jason arrived wearing only one sandal, Pelias recognized the danger and sent him on the quest for the Golden Fleece to get rid of him. Pelion is also believed to be the place where the gods celebrated the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, which later led to the events of the Trojan War. You can feel the energy of this place engulfed in nature. Together, Anavros and Mount Pelion form a mythological landscape where: Heroes were trained, Prophecies were fulfilled, Legendary journeys began.
