A remote, off-the-grid island retreat in picturesque Humpy Cove, Orca Island Cabins offers private, upscale yurts/cabins with a private bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen, dining, sleeping and living areas, and private decks with barbecues. Each cabin is situated is at the waterfront with panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, distant islands and a variety of marine wildlife that visit our cove daily. Your unforgettable Alaskan getaway begins when we meet you on the docks in Seward. We'll take you on a one hour cruise aboard our Orca Islander across Resurrection Bay, home to the Kenai Fjords National Park. We'll stop for any wildlife we see along the way! Once you've arrived at the Island, we'll give you a full tour of the property, including all of the included amenities - kayaks, paddle boards, life jackets, wet suits, fishing gear, row boats, and more! Our yurts are very luxurious outdoor living spaces, and include a propane wood stove that provides heat and running water despite the remote location. All yurts have private bathrooms with sink, shower, and a composting toilet. Our accommodations are often referred to in the travel industry as “glamping”, i.e. where guests can enjoy lodgings in a remote, wilderness setting in both comfort and style. Guests must bring all food and ice they will need during their stay, and a cooler is provided in the kitchen. We have two decks with Adirondack chairs and fire pits for guests to sit out and enjoy the natural beauty that is Alaska. Guests can access all parts of the property, including communal outdoor decks and fire pits. Guests have full use of non-motorized water crafts including kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and row boats. We also have fishing gear available. Anyone wanting to fish must purchase a fishing license prior to arrival. One of our staff members are on the property at all times and are there to assist guests with their units and activities if needed. All activities are done independently and are not guided. Our staff enjoy meeting travelers and visiting with our guests. We're located in Humpy Cove – a protected and scenic cove in Resurrection Bay (the same bay as Kenai Fjords National Park). We're surrounded by snow-capped mountains and have abundant wildlife sightings. It's the perfect location for sea kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, hiking, tide-pooling and fishing. Observe wildlife from the island and on your private deck, including Orca and Humpback whales, harbor porpoise, Steller sea lions, sea otters, bald eagles, jelly fish, sea stars and much more. Two popular hiking options include one to an army bunker atop the mountain (1 hour hike) and one around and over a beautiful waterfall by a salmon stream within the cove (accessible by a ½ hour kayak paddle). Many guests enjoy the island’s art gallery which houses a variety of original art works by the island’s resident artist and founder as well as other locally crafted items. And guests enjoy crossing our 80 ft. footbridge that connects the island to mainland property where additional yurts are located and an expansive boardwalk leads you through a temperate, rain-forested hillside with unique rock formations and where a variety of mosses, ferns and wildflowers thrive – beautiful and magical. Guests can use any of the non-motorized vessels to get around. There is a hidden waterfall that many explore throughout their stay, as well as a nearby hiking trail. Eco-tourism: Recipient of the Gold rating in eco-tourism by Adventure Green Alaska, our yurts have composting toilets in each bathroom; solar power for electricity; propane for cabin fireplaces, hot water heaters and kitchen ranges; and drinking water is transported to the island by boat daily. All construction on the island Rates: $850 per night for a couple; ($235 additional per person for 3rd and 4th guests sharing a cabin). Rates include round-trip water taxi (1 hour cruise each way), and use of fishing gear, wet suits, and all watercraft including kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and row boats. Food: Guests need to bring their food, beverages of choice, and ice (coolers are provided on the boat for transfer to island and in each yurt). Drinking water is available on the island. Departure Times: 1 PM Departure daily (Seward Boat Harbor to island), 1 hour cruise. Guests are requested to meet at the boat ½ hour prior to departure (12:30pm).
