Creekside Celo Farmhouse
Description
Tucked below Mt. Celo Knob, you can expect to enjoy spectacular views of the mountains, the sweet hum of the creek and our gardens. Come for a rustic, simple stay in our clean, light filled home! Located off Highway 80 on 5 acres near the Blue Ridge Parkway and surrounded by nearby hiking trails and the gorgeous Celo Knob and South Toe River. Closest towns are Burnsville (15 min) & Spruce Pine (20 min). Super close to Camp Celo, Mt Mitchell, Waterfall hikes, Penland, Arthur Morgan School. The space We are lucky to have fared well through Hurricane Helene. We are in an area with wonderful folks who help each other, some who lost a lot during the storms. This is a great place for families and for groups of friends. It's a lovingly cared for old farmhouse, filled with creative and joyful vibes- we aren't fancy! We have stocked the home with board games, books and some toys for kids of all ages, but the real fun is staying cozy by the wood-burning stove, dipping toes in the creek, listening to the river, eating on the porch, reading a good book, hiking around and wading in the water or star gazing in the front yard (in summer) watching the butterflies (in spring) the leaves change (in autumn) and the snow fall (in winter). The home is currently heated by space heaters and a wood burning stove. There is one window air conditioning unit upstairs for the height of summer days, but otherwise fans and open windows keep the sweet old farmhouse cool. Two bedrooms are downstairs and two are upstairs. All the photos here are from when we go and stay as a family- it's a great place to simplify, reconnect, daydream, and enjoy nature. Guest access Our property has a field with a fire pit, an incredible 1/2 acre organic farm (Farmed by some neighbors, please don't pick!), a sweet, bubbling, creek to wade in that provides the home's spring water (we had to help the creek refind its way after the flooding knocked it off course), a hike into the mountain behind us up to a clearing, and the loveliest artist and farmer neighbors. You can purchase all kinds of fermented and pickled foods and sometimes seasonal produce from Local and co-op gardeners (SOILSHINE Farm) and neighbors, at the Saturday Burnsville farmers market. Contact Rob Levin for a tour of his amazing glass blowing studio next door. The whole house is yours, and the porch is a favorite spot to hear the river and creek in stereo. There is a wooden portable easel in case anyone would like to bring their art supplies, or use (and then clean) some of ours. We have a gas stove for cooking yummy meals, an apple tree to climb (and eat from in season!). Wifi works well in case you would *like to plug in. Other things to note Your most immediate neighbor who shares the driveway is Skylar, who lives in the apartment we renovated above the garage. He is a beloved educator in the area. He will be your closest local emergency resource while you are there, but please contact us first with any questions- we are happy to stay in touch throughout your stay! AND if you'd like, we have resources to local massage and bodywork therapists in the area. Just ask!
