Description
There's a real sense of wonder when you first arrive at Bodfan Bach; turn off the busy coast road leading to the Llyn Peninsula near Plas Glynllifon (former home of the Barons Newborough) and head down lanes towards the picture-perfect village of Llandwrog and the vast sweep of beach at Dinas Dinlle. Then head down the private track through the trees to arrive at Bodfan Bach and you soon see why the original builders of Bodfan chose this spot to settle almost 400 years ago. The space The village is a short walk away over the fields or along the lane and the beautiful community-owned pub Tyn Llan is well worth a visit. A private track leads directly from Bodfan Bach through farmland and yellow iris meadows to the quiet end of the beach at Dinas Dinlle, popular with surfers. Back at the house, everything is as perfect as you'd expect it to be. The large garden is sheletered and has dining and lounging terraces and a beautiful cobbled courtyard. The kitchen is bright and airy and leads through to the sitting/dining room with its incredible original oak beams and woodburing stove in the inglenook. Beyond is the cinema room where you can choose from a huge selection of DVD's, switch on the wall projector, close the curtains, open the popcorn and slump in the squishy sofas for a few hours. Beats a multiplex any day! Also on the ground floor is the boot room which opens into the courtyard and also has a useful shower room which is perfect for washing the beach off. Even here there are original features and thoughful lighting and furnishing. Upstairs there are three sizeable king size bedrooms. The master has an ensuite WC and Basin and TV and all bedrooms are light and bright with views over the countryside. One of the bedrooms has a sofa bed which turns it into a useful family room. There is also a family bathroom on the this floor with bath and separate shower. The immediate area is rich is legend and particularly associated with the Fourth Branch of the Mabinogi, one of the earliest Welsh myths (Caer Arianrhod is visible from where the path reaches the beach). It seems this has been a magical place for quite some time.
