Description

Close to everything, this family-friendly oasis is just 4 blocks from a grocery store and shops, 8 blocks to the Atlantic beach bridge entrance, close to downtown Morehead City, a few miles from quaint and historic Beaufort, the aquarium, Atlantic Beach, and Fort Macon! At home, you'll enjoy the awesome ocean-themed kids' room, family games, galley kitchen, front porch, grassy yard, ROKU TV, and laundry. Your family will look back on the Joyful Days and Restful Nights found here. The space Our family loves to stay in Air/V homes where hotel hallways and noisy neighbors in next-door rooms don't distract from family fun. Over the years, we've stayed in some gems, but we've also had those experiences where we've felt confused, or worse - misled- by the promised amenities or conditions of a home. We also found that staying together in one house and finding a place within our budget was often hard! In our minds, we hoped "one day" to create a place our family could love. We hoped to share such a welcoming space with others who seek a serene, family-friendly home to call their own for a few days. After much research and planning, alog with great patience, we were richly blessed by the opportunity to reach a dream when we purchased this little home in Morehead City. The little house had potential, but it was nowhere near ready for company. After months of rehab work, we were finally able to share our work. Almost instantly, families began to request stays at Turtle's Tuck - the perfect family getaway. For months, we were delighted by the response our 3-bedroom, 2-bath home received on another platform so we decided to invite another audience to access Turtle's Tuck by adding it to the Air BnB site. Again, the feedback is wonderful and we feel like a mission is being accomplished. This is by no means a huge house, but it will embrace your family and provide the perfect place for a peaceful stay. The 1100-square-foot home has a cottagey feel and has been recently repainted throughout. The hand-hewn southern pecan floorboards were also recently refinished. We've designed this space to suit families of up to 7, typically with a 4-adult maximum as we've found 4 adults and up to 3 children work best. Rest your heads in our comfy beds! There is a King bedroom with a large closet and ensuite full bath, a queen bedroom, and a unique ocean-themed room with two twin beds that is sure to delight younger kids while still being "cool" enough for teens. All beds are wooden platform style with regular mattresses, plus mattress and pillow covers. No bed railings are provided. There is a GRACO port-a-crib in the closet and room enough in wany bedroom to set it up. The flexible space also includes a sofa bed, so 2 older kids or adult family members don't have to share a queen bed. In addition to cotton (or high cotton content blend) bedspreads, we've selected cotton towels for your comfort. Blankets are found in each bedroom closet. King and Queen rooms have blackout curtains. For safety, in the twin bedroom there are no curtains. The blinds have no strings, the lockers are bolted into the wall, and the overhead light has no fan. The twin room does have 1-2 moveable small sidetables/dressers. These are not bolted into the wall so there is flexibility if you need to move things around to accommodate the GRACO crib, floor pillows, and space for fun. From the inclusion of many family games, puzzles, Wii, some DVDs for kids and adults, beach reads and some children's books, we have tried to be sure there is plenty to prevent boredom on a rainy afternoon. When the weather's fine, find family games for outdoor use in the screened-in area beside the shed/barn. The shed/barn is off-limits, but the fenced yard and games are fun for all. We even leave a little birdseed for each family to sprinkle on the seed stands beside the deck. There are over a dozen varieties of local birds that might be seen, depending on the season. Both front and back yards are fenced, though the grassy backyard is more secure. In season, you'll find herbs such as basil growing in the planter in front of the shed/barn and a wide variety of native pollinator plants growing out front. The driveway is perfect for a single car. Due to the potential for the ground to get soft or the street to flood in very bad storms, on-street parking is not advised anywhere on the cul-de-sac. For cooking, you'll find a full-size electric stove, microwave, and outdoor grill. Pots, pans, dishes (3 sets), cutlery, serving ware, glasses, cups (including sippy cups), measuring cups and bowls, a toaster, and a blender are all there for you. Ready to make that French toast in the morning? Look for a bit of vanilla extract or cinnamon in the closet where a basic variety of spices is found. We know what it's like to spend $25 on a few condiments or flavorings to help get a meal together for your family, only to find you can't bring them home for one reason or another, so we tried to help! We sometimes even leave a surprise in the kitchen (like brownie mix, or popsicles). Please be respectful to the next guest and thoroughly clean the grill and all kitchenware. Turtle's Tuck is important to us and we hope it will be special part of your next adventure. Please take time to read the extra notes below. We've shared lots of details so you can get to know the property and be sure it's a fit for your family. In setting up this home, we worked hard to respect the needs of many different family configurations, so whatever your family structure, we hope you will find the results to be exactly what your family needs to enjoy making memories! Thanks, Matt ~~~~It may seem silly that we have to warn folks, but parental preview/supervision is key to the safe and happy use of any item in the house or on the property. Be aware of the allergies and needs of each member of your group.~~~ Other notes: 1. **We make use of a doorbell with camera and intercom/mic/speaker. We will soon be installing outdoor security yard cameras and noise monitors. Of course, there are no cameras or security recorders inside the house. Please ask about how we use these devices if you are concerned. 2. Ours a no-smoking (including e-cig), no flame (birthday cake candles - the exception), and no pet of any type property - inside and out, so you never have to worry about any left-over smoky odors from previous guest stays and our neighbors don't have to worry about any messes along property lines. 2. No guests are permitted without communication in advance of your visit. Meeting Grandma in Morehead? Best friend in Beaufort? Maybe a nearby auntie is apt to stop by and spoil the kiddos? We'd love to know more! Prebooking is the best time to discuss this. 3. This house is for FAMILIES. If your group is not made up of related adults and kids, please communicate before booking. While we do not typically host unrelated adults, we invite you to write and share your needs. If we agree, we will offer written acknowledgment of our exception. 4. TVs are ROKU - no cable. Wireless internet code is found in the welcome book and other spots at the house. 5. No parties, at all, but a rousing round of "Happy Birthday", or a low key sing-along when Uncle Carl brings his guitar is always fun! (Outdoor quiet hours - 9 pm-9am) 4. The owners do have a dog, who does come to the house from time to time. She's a rescued beagle mix with a big heart. If, even after cleaning and vacuuming, her visits cause and potential allergy danger to any member of your family, we regret this home may not be right for you. 5. BRINGING A certified service animal? Please share documents and let us know so our housekeeper is ready for an extra deep clean, to help protect those with extreme allergies. We dearly appreciate the gifts of service dogs and embrace related hospitality laws. If you are bringing a service dog, there are a few important things we'd like to share ---- so please communicate pre-booking. 6. Need a baby monitor? We've got one! 7. Two towels and washcloths are provided for each person. A cotton bath mat is found in each bathroom. There are extra towels and sheets available if needed. Out of respect for our housekeeper's budgeted time, extra linens should be washed and dried unless we've 8. With an additional deposit, your family may use our Shibumi sunshade for safety beneath the southern sunshine while at the beach Accessibility notes: The concrete driveway leads to a paved walkway up to the front steps. There are several steps from the front walkway to the porch. From there, the house is on one floor. There is a lip/sill of about 3/4" between the front door and porch and the back sliding door and deck. The deck does have space for a wheelchair. There are several steps from the deck to the backyard. The kitchen is wide enough for a wheelchair, but turning around may prove tough, depending on wheelchair size and mobility needs. communicated and agreed on other arrangements. Other things to note Please send an inquiry that tells us about the family we'll be hosting and what brings you to the area. We love to know a bit about your group, especially the kids, you'll bring, as it helps us to select a small "something" to leave for each young person. ***Ask us about our TRIP TICKET souvenirs! This personalized/custom "ticket" is created just for your family/kids. Tickets are sent to you as a printable document for you to print at home. This is a special souvenir (no dollar value/entry/actual ticket). We create these for you as a gift. Tickets are created after AirBnB receives payment for your trip. Q: Why the "inquiry" step? Why can't I instant book? A: This extra step helps us get to know our guests a bit to make sure house Turtle's Tuck in a perfect fit. We've learned the "extra step" helps make sure house agreements have truly been read and are acceptable (no smoking or vaping on the property, no unregistered guests, no loud gatherings/parties, etc.) and that we can answer any questions before you book. Of course, we'll continue to answer things that pop up after booking, but those items are generally let critical than pre-booking questions. [This also helps us keep bots and pranksters from booking the place, only to cancel. We never imagined such unkindness would happen, but it does. ] Q: Do you ONLY rent to families? A: We FOCUS on families, but wil often rent to other groups of unrelated adults (over 21)as long as the house policies have been read and agreed to. Q: Why is the cleaning fee the same for 3 days as 7 days? A: Our cleaner is wonderful (you'd love her!). She does a thorough job whether 3 people stay for 3 days or 6 people stay for 6 days. As in hotels, the assumption is that all things may have been used to some degree. ** Q: Under what conditions does my deposit not get returned? A: Break something? Call us. Use every towel in the house? Reach out. Set off the smoke alarm when the popcorn's on for too long? Let us know. MOST "oopsies" can be worked out easily. Some, like leaving every towel in the house in the tub for cleaning, or smoking indoors, will result in loss of some or all of your deposit. We provide linens, towels and soap supplies, plus many "just in case" linens and towels. We ask that you please be respectful of the resources available to you. If your group uses much more than those left in the bathroom and on your beds, please know part of your deposit will be kept to pay for the extra time and cost of our cleaner. (Basic fee $25 per load) As an alternative, if you use lots of resources, reach out to us to discuss doing a load or two of laundry before you leave. We rarely have to enforce this policy, or a deep clean for smoke in the house policy, because our guests are typically wonderfully kind and family-centered.
