Sanctuary 1890 Yellow Room
(We suffered a house fire in December 2022, and the third floor and roof were largely destroyed. Water damaged the first and second floors, and we are currently unable to live here or continue our Airbnb hosting for now. Rebuilding plans are underway, and we will look forward to reopening our doors in upcoming months. Please stay tuned!) Our home is in the Near Westside Historic District. The Yellow Room, on the second floor of our three-story home, is newly renovated with sunny colors, lovely antiques and appointments. The shared bathroom has a new shower in a deep bathtub. We have restored our historic home, and it features beautiful hardwood floors, area rugs and antiques. We are very near Elmira College, the Clemens Center for performing arts, and many local shopping and eating places. Our tree-lined streets in the historic district are very lovely and walkable. We are 45 minutes from Ithaca College, Cornell University, and the Watkins Glen International Speedway. A secluded second story porch is available for sitting and reading. A dorm-size refrigerator is available for guest-only use on the second floor. The shared first floor kitchen is available if needed, and is beautifully restored with modern appointments. We live here, too, and will be available if you need us or want to socialize! We live in the Historic Near Westside neighborhood, with beautiful homes and easy walking access to restaurants, taverns, pubs, wine bar, Elmira College, Arnot Art Museum, parks, grocery, pharmacies, etc. Living in the Southern Tier of New York places us minutes away from the PA border, the Finger Lakes wine and tourism region, Watkins Glen International Raceway, and the Corning Museum of Glass. NYC is 4 hours southeast, Niagara Falls is 3 hours northwest, Rochester is 2 hours northwest, Syracuse is 2 hours north, Ithaca is 45 minutes north. There is plenty to do here! In addition to walking and driving, we have public transportation available and taxis. Mark Twain spent many summers in Elmira, and his study and gravesite are popular places to visit! Ernie Davis grew up here and played football in our local high school. His statue is located in front of Ernie Davis Academy (School) on Hoffman Street. Other popular sights to visit are: The National Warplane Museum, Harris Hill Amusement Park, the Soaring Museum (amazing to watch gliders take off, soar, and land!), Eldridge Park, and the Arnot Art Museum.
