The space *Check-in and check-out days are currently restricted to Mondays and Fridays, however if you wish to enquire about an alternative check-in day please do contact us and we will always endeavour to accommodate. Welcome to The Old Church Hall. We began restoring the Hall in 2020 after it was left in disrepair – we are delighted to welcome guests to stay since it’s restoration. Channel 4 and Windfall films have made an hour long feature with architect Charlie Luxton for The Great British Home Restoration, which can be found on the Channel 4 website - the episode about the church hall is Series 2 Episode 6. We are in the Western Lake District between the mountains and miles of sandy coastline. The space We offer a unique experience for gatherings of larger and smaller groups, and happy to tailor to your needs. Ground Floor: Entrance hall – original tiled floors, antique pews for changing boots, boot racks, and a “dog chest” – kitted out with dog leads, bowls, biscuits, tennis balls, poo bags, dog towels etc. Open plan living space Living area - Samsung The Frame Freeview TV – hangs as artwork when off, three large squashy sofas Dining area – a bespoke, 4.5 metre table seating up to 22, made to fit around the building’s steel pillars Kitchen area - 2 full size electric ovens, 5 electric hob rings, microwave, American fridge-freezer, dishwasher, well-equipped with champagne flutes, wine glasses, pint glasses, teapots, cafetieres, tea/coffee/milk/sugar and local farm eggs The original stage area – acting as a second living room space, perfect for socialising, games and yoga. This space also has a whopping 26 foot pew, and from late November, we decorate the stage area with a 17 foot Christmas tree. Our famous Yves Klein Blue steel staircase takes you from the stage to the top floor – an art feature in itself. In Summer 2025 we installed a home cinema - perfect for rainy days! Utility Room - Washing Machine, dog cage, body boards, iron and ironing board, hot water bottles etc Study – a low-lit, comfortable, quiet space for reading Bedrooms 1, 2 and 3, each with a king-size bed - all bedrooms are furnished with a king-size (5ft) bed with Original Emma mattresses. Each room is supplied with a hairdryer, hanging rail, chest of drawers, bedside tables and lamps, USB wall plugs, feather duvets and pillows and plush cotton sheets Bathroom - Large, freestanding bath, spacious cubicle shower, toilet Shower Room: spacious cubicle shower, toilet First Floor: Mezzanine – views of the Irish Sea through an enormous window, a deep squashy sofa, and board games Bedroom 4 - king-size (5ft) bed, furnished as above Bedroom 5 - 3 x king-size (5ft) beds, armchair and sofa, furnished as above Shower Room - Cubicle Shower, Toilet Shower Room - Cubicle Shower, Toilet Central heating from the original cast iron radiators and full insulation throughout means the house is toasty and stays warm long after the heating is turned off. All heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi is included. Garden with garden furniture, washing line, barbecue, outdoor tap and dog poo bin. Private parking for 2 cars, additional on-road parking available. No smoking. Please note: strictly no parties (except by prior arrangement with the owner). We have one travel cot and two high chairs available – please request prior to your arrival. The Church Hall is over a century old. We have transformed it into a luxury 5 bedroom property sleeping 14. We can offer two double futons, sleeping an additional 4 people on request – but please note that these futons are in the stage area, which is a through-room to the bathroom facilities, and does not have blinds. We are delighted that this house blends historical charm and modern, luxury amenities to provide a one-of-a-kind retreat. The building boasts high ceilings, enormous windows flooding the building with natural light, original features and fascinating antiques and oddities like our antique watchmaker’s table. Our stage area, which has hosted some famous names presenting to the village over history, is a versatile space that can be used for yoga, socialising, party games, or to unwind after a long day on the beach or up the fells. This unique retreat provides the perfect escape for those seeking a balance of relaxation and exploration. In the local area, you’ll find an array of exciting activities. Explore the charming village of Seascale with pubs, an award-winning chippie and brand new ice cream shop with a deli counter, and expansive golf course. The neighbouring village of Gosforth has a wonderful café and pizza restaurant. Take a leisurely stroll along the miles of sandy beaches or embark on a scenic hike in the nearby Lake District. Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Yewbarrow are all accessible a couple of miles away in Wasdale – where you can also hire bikes, paddleboard, kayak and swim in Wast Water (the deepest and cleanest lake in England). Visit historic sites at Muncaster Castle and Eskdale Mill or the L’al Ratty steam train into the Eskdale valley or visit the birth place of St Patrick in Ravenglass, indulge in local cuisine at quaint restaurants and make lasting memories in this picturesque part of the world. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, history buff, or simply seeking relaxation, our converted church hall is the ideal starting point for an unforgettable holiday experience. Can comfortably fit 14 people – 4 additional guests on two futons (on request only). Please note: strictly no parties (except by prior arrangement with the owner). The property is non-smoking. Dogs very welcome! Guest access The property is keyless - you will be sent the code to access the property a few days prior to arrival. Other things to note Please note we have a couple of house rules - No parties unless previously discussed with us Dogs to be kept on the ground floor (not in the carpeted rooms) Dogs not to be left unattended in the building unless they're comfortable in a dog cage Please refrain from parking with wheels on the pavement so that the pavement remains accessible Please note that we ask that noise is kept respectful for our neighbours after 9pm
