Vothonas is built in a steep gorge and it catches the eye for its unique, special architecture. The majority of the houses are cave houses built by the villagers by carving out volcanic rocks. Together with the natural beauty, they form a village that you can enjoy by wandering through the charming, narrow alleys. A sense of calm and privacy permeates the entire village, and you can become part of it by staying in the cave house Otto House. There are several churches and chapels in Vothonas that are worth a visit because of their distinctive architecture and location. At the most beautiful entrance to the village you will find the church of Agios Roussos, built of pimpstone on a rock. Another well-known church is Agia Anna, the oldest church in the village (built in 1827), which owns a beautiful boulder farm. Just outside the village is the exceptional church Panagia Sergena, which is carved into a large volcanic rock and used to be a shelter in the past. Vothonas is unique because of the location they choose to build it. Inside a canyon, where safety and peace prevail. With cave houses scattered through the mountain, it creates a visual labyrinth of interest and charm.
