Blue Lake Sanctuary

Surrounded by pastures, it's a short walk to the Mad River for swims and walks. The Mad River Brewery is less than a mile up the road. Excellent mountain biking is 1 mile away. In a 15 minute drive you can find the hip town of Arcata, surrounded by redwoods and hiking as well as a majestic coastline. Sundays 10 am to noon we host a family friendly ecstatic dance in the studio adjacent to the apartment. Expect music at that time. Come join us! Public Yoga classes are Tuesday & Saturday am. The space We've been living on this property since 1999 and have raised our children here amongst other community members who also live on this property. We began building our custom home in 2008, moved into the home in 2014. Art takes time! We live as a multigenerational family with our grown son, his partner and our 2 year old grandson. We share the same beautiful entrance with the apartment. It is just to the left as you come in the door. You may be greeted by two friendly black labs, Lucy and Ollie. The full size bed is in the loft, so must have the agility to climb the European half step stairs. (see photos) The well appointed kitchenette has an industrial quality hot plate for cooking, microwave and toaster. If there is anything you need, just ask. The bathroom has a custom built shower with pebbles to gently massage your feet. Close both the doors for greater privacy and sound resilience. Please note that on Sundays from 10 am to noon there will be music in the adjacent movement space as we host a dance. All are welcome! Guest access The apartment is within our home. In our home is also a movement space, The Blue Lake Sanctuary. There are public, community classes here, led by the owner, Peggy, for yoga on Tuesdays at 8:30-9:45 am, Saturdays 10 -11:30 am and Albo, the builder of the home, hosts a 5 Rhythms inspired ecstatic dance from 10 to noon on Sundays. You are welcome to join in on any of the public events in the studio. We also have a back yard through the gate that we share with other community members who live on our property. Please close the gate behind you to keep the dogs in. There is a trampoline to use at your own risk, picnic tables and a garden to meander in.
