Beachstone Cottage on Washington Island
One-of-a-kind cottage nestled on the sunrise coast of Washington Island. A craftsmen home featuring the artistry of a legendary stone mason. Rustic charms with modern comforts. Designed as a single-family vacation home. A perfect destination for romantic getaways with one or two couples. Modest in size but large in allure. The sun rises over a flat stone beach that contains fossils from 437 million years ago. The natural world at its finest. A calming escape; not to be forgotten. The space The cottage was built in 1995 by Ted Jorgenson, a terrific carpenter on the island and featuring the stonework of Kirby Gunnlaugsson, the best mason in Door County who lives on the island. The property includes a one-hundred-year-old log cabin for lounge chair storage, 420 feet of shoreline facing east and 5 acres of land across the street. "The sound of the sea will soothe your soul; revitalizing your human spirit." The cottage inside has approximately 1100 square feet, an open kitchen/dining room with vaulted ceiling, 2 under-the-counter refrigerators, a small chest freezer, gas stove, one large bathroom with shower, 2 bedrooms, one down and one upstairs, both with queen beds. The upstairs also has 2 single trundle beds. The downstairs bedroom has a stacked washer/dryer. All the heat is electric with a control in each room. The one of a kind, floor to ceiling fireplace is also a cooking fireplace. We provide wood for your first fire... but please purchase more wood if you want multiple fires. The septic system is a 2000 gallon holding tank so renters should be very frugal with water usage. The cottage is limited to 4 adults (plus 2 small children at most) and the minimum rental is one week. $300 per night plus ABNB fees and taxes. Other things to note A relaxed, slow pace attitude: After a few days on the Island you’ll notice that this is the place that time left behind. It feels like the 1950s on the Island… and that’s precisely why people love it. Everyone is kind and polite and not loud and flashy. So just relax… you are now on Island Time! The unique stone beach is one of a few on the island that has visible fossils from 437 million years ago, the Silurian Period. This is a very special part of the world. No glass or fireworks on the beach, please! The septic system is a 2000 gallon holding tank so renters should be very frugal with water usage. No Pharmacy or Emergency Room on the Island: Bring your medications from home! Watch your step and tread lightly… Emergency response time on the Island is slow and ambulance rides are costly. No Dishwasher: A long, long time ago humans would wash their dishes by hand. Some folks find washing dishes to be calming… and some say it provides a feeling of accomplishment. We ask that you embrace this ancient tradition.
