Description

Our eight-person (dog friendly) camping barn is the perfect base for an adventure holiday with easy access to numerous mountain hikes from the doorstep; wonderful waterfalls; local pubs; technical mountain bike routes; dreamy gravel tracks; and peaceful lake shores for some wild swimming or paddleboarding… Described by many as a glamourous 'stone tent' it provides a cosy, dry, comfy sleeping area plus toilet, shower & kitchen/dining area in one of the most beautiful areas in the Lake District. The space Everything is self contained within the barn: as you enter through the main door the dining and kitchen area is to your right - this contains a simple cooking system of 4 hot plate stoves, fridge, toaster & kettle. We also provide a pan set, dining set, various mugs, tumblers and useful kitchen tools such as knife set (including steak knives), chopping board, bottle opener, tin opener, measuring jug, bowls, grater, colander, hand-whisk, wooden spoons & spatulas. The kitchen & dining area also contains a noticeboard with route maps of some of our favourite local walks that start right from the door of the barn. We have recently installed heating in the form of an Imaginefires bioethanol freestanding stove - fuel for this can be purchased from us for £8 a bottle which will provide 3 - 4 hours of heating. Please let us know prior to your trip if you would like to reserve some fuel and we can have it in the property ready for you. You are also welcome to bring your own bioethanol. Straight ahead you have the entrance hall that contains the bins, sweeping equipment, clothes rail & hangers for drying damp clothing, shoe rack and coat hooks. Further up the corridor you have the toilet and electric shower facilities. Upstairs you have the wide open barn space (the stone tent) to sleep in with it's exposed beams, wooden floor and whitewashed interior walls with a small window looks out across the farm. We provide 8 5" deep single mattresses so there is no need to waste your holiday time inflating your airbed or worrying about it deflating on you. You just need a snug sleeping bag and pillow. We provide secure storage for outdoor equipment that can be accessed only by the occupants of the barn from their private patio area. This includes a 6 slot bike rack, but other bikes can be easily slotted in so that everyone can bring a bike! Dog Friendly: We welcome well behaved dogs and just request that you keep them on a lead whilst on the farm and that you tidy up any mess they make and dispose of it in the suitable waste bins located in the farmyard. We provide a handy poo-bag dispenser on the inside of the door to the barn. We also have a scenic and secure dog play paddock just across the road from our farm (100m walk). Signal: The valley has very poor mobile signal so please ensure you save any important information prior to your arrival. We have installed Starlink on the farm so that guests can have a basic wifi connection in the yard but the strength and speed of this does vary and struggles if the barn is at full capacity and all guests are using it. Other options for signal/wifi signal include down the road at the Bridge Inn or Croft House Cafe or can be picked up on the hills (e.g Rannderdale Knotts). Mobile signal is available on the roads to Lorton and Braithwaite. Our Livestock: We have a variety of livestock on the farm such as Herdwick sheep, Kerry Hill sheep, Bagot goats and Oxford Sandy and Black piglets. Please let us know if you would like to meet any of them. Eating Out: 250m down the road in the centre of the village you can find two pubs (the Bridge Inn and Buttermere Court Hotel) and a daytime cafe (Croft House Farm Cafe) - all dog friendly. Guest access When you book the barn you have the entire space to yourselves! Other things to note Signal: Please be aware that there is little to no mobile signal in the valley so please download directions and useful information before entering the valley. We do have Starlink WiFi available but again due to the area and supply available this is not capable of urban speeds that you may be used to and can fluctuate at times. Parking: We have parking spaces available for up to 4 small cars or 3 large vehicles for the camping barn. We are next door to the National Trust car park (charges apply) but can also recommend spaces locally that are free. To access the parking after dropping off your luggage turn left out of the farm yard and then immediately left again to park in front of the big barn doors. See photos for parking location.
