There are places where happiness is not an abstract concept but an atmosphere that you can breathe as soon as you cross the threshold of the house. La Mia Idea di Felicità is a small villa built entirely of stone, surrounded by a private courtyard of about 250 square meters. As my guests have attested over the years, this place has a special positive energy, and peace and quiet reign here. Your creativity will not be distracted but amplified, and if you are a writer, painter, musician or fashion designer, or if you are simply looking for inspiration for any project or a rejuvenating break, you will probably find the ideal atmosphere here... This isn't just a place to stay, but a place of family and historical discoveries. You will be staying right in the area where my father discovered the veins of "Pietra Paesina," the stone painted by nature that contains genuine mineral paintings within it. Just a short walk from here lies the village of Sarmata, an ancient historical site and a place where the Sarmatians passed through. The Sarmatians were warriors of Eastern origin who moved here in the 4th century to support the Roman legions. The house is surrounded by a large agricultural field sloping down toward the valley floor and cultivated by a farmer with alfalfa or wheat, covering approximately 4 hectares (plowing, mowing, and fertilizing are carried out twice a year). The garden is fenced on all sides with chestnut beams spaced about 10–12 cm apart. It is particularly peaceful, safe, and quiet, as it is sheltered by a coppice and a hilly park, both of which are still owned by the family and maintained by a professional gardener (an aspect to consider in terms of value for money). The house is set back from the road that runs along the hill and is part of a late 19th-century hamlet that has been almost entirely renovated. It is detached on all four sides and has an independent entrance. It is set within a lush garden with aromatic herbs and a few fruit trees (pears and plums) whose fruit you can eat freely. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge and freezer, electric oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, mini blender, electric water heater, dishwasher and washing machine, wood-burning stove, wine glasses, and a truly complete set of dishes and cookware. There is an adjoining bathroom with a double shower and double sink and direct access to the veranda with a view (12 m²), which is equipped with air conditioning. The living room (with an independent split air conditioning unit) is spacious and bright, with a king-size beige Alcantara sofa and a single armchair bed that can be opened out for a third guest (suitable for people of normal build). The living room is connected to the master bedroom (160x188 cm mattress), which has a balcony and is furnished with authentic designer and antique furniture. There is a TV and a mini radio system. In the garden, you can use the beautiful stone table or enjoy the view from the veranda or while sitting comfortably on the PVC sofa provided on the ground floor. You can have lunch in the shade under the 40 m² porch and enjoy the garden on the provided loungers or under the 420x220 maxi parasol (from June to October). The nearest village is called Ponte dell'Olio and is about 7 km (13 minutes) away. It can only be reached by car or motorcycle due to the uphill and downhill stretches, which are steep in some places. The hamlet of Sarmata, inhabited by numerous families, some permanent residents and some who come and go, is located in the surrounding area near the private hill. 15 km away is Carpaneto Piacentino, where the town market is held on Sundays. Both have stores and all services, banks, pharmacies, post offices, supermarkets, and stores specializing in local cold cuts and cheeses. From the house, numerous hilly roads branch off, some paved and some unpaved, which can also be traveled on foot and with your e-bike and, of course, by car or motorcycle, where you can visit numerous wineries that produce the famous local Ortrugo and Gutturnio wines! The air is clean and free of smog thanks to the privileged location, and it is breezy in the summer. Silence reigns supreme, punctuated by the sounds of the forest, and if you look up at the sky in the evening, you'll be amazed by the brightest stars you've ever seen. On the clearest days, if you look to the northwest, you can see the outline of Mont Blanc over 400 km away! The taps provide very soft, diuretic mountain drinking water: drink it with peace of mind and don't waste it! In the garden, you can sunbathe in complete privacy and seclusion. For those who wish to cool off in a swimming pool, there are several well-equipped and reasonably priced facilities in the neighboring municipalities. As of June 2025, the renovated municipal swimming pool in Ponte dell'Olio has reopened. Wallbox: As of this year, a paid charging station for electric cars and bicycles has been installed, with a dual Schuko socket and a private meter. To charge, ask the host for permission: the cost in 2026 is €0.85 per kWh, and you must send a photo of the meter before and after your charging session. The station is located at the bottom of the private driveway, under the porch, on the left-hand beam. Payment must be made in cash. From the parking area, you can walk to the house in just a few steps, going down 3 steps. From December to the end of February, although rare, snowfall is possible. Therefore, if you book during this period, your car must be equipped with good winter tires or snow chains if needed. Outside the fenced area, you can walk along the private lane and skirt the hill on foot, following a circular route of about 1 km. The area is full of pizzerias and typical restaurants. Among them, just a 5-minute drive away, is the famous Locanda Cacciatori restaurant (closed on Wednesdays) in Mistadello di Castione (6 minutes from the house), which is frequented by foodies from the neighboring regions, or the La Pattona agriturismo, open from Wednesday to Sunday (reservations required!). The stone house facing the one being rented is also my property and is used by me only when there are no guests, so during your stay you will enjoy complete privacy (the property is monitored only on the outside by a webcam that covers the common areas). If you have bicycles, you can park them safely under the porch in the garden. I would like to mention the cycle path that forms a loop connecting Piacenza with the Trebbia River, passing through Rivergaro, and is about 50 km long! The best for 2-wheel lovers. Other things to note What a great idea to spend the fall in the hills, forgetting about overtourism, just a stone's throw from Parma, Busseto, Salsomaggiore and Piacenza, and without paying the tourist tax! True peace, multicolored foliage, away from the hustle and bustle of tourist resorts, finally reading a good book, playing an instrument or sunbathing in the villa's park, in silence, overlooking the landscape of the Ligurian Prealps or watching the roe deer from the veranda as they peacefully graze on the grass in the Nure Valley and Trebbia Valley... And then there are the excursions to the nearby medieval castles of Gropparello, Castel Arquato and Bobbio with the help of guides (by reservation), or a stroll to Grazzano Visconti or Piacenza. This is the gift you should give yourself, one that will remain in your heart – but take your time! To get to know the area, we recommend staying for at least a week. On the hottest days of summer, since the house faces southwest, you might prefer to use the porch for lunch. In the house, you will also find split air conditioning units set to 23 degrees and 2 fans, in addition to the ceiling fan in the bedroom. The evenings are cool and breezy, and mosquitoes are very rare. In any case, a sliding screen is installed in the balcony door in the bedroom and in the bathroom window. The new parasol provided must always be closed in the evening and when you are away from the house or in case of wind. For washing dishes, I prefer that you use the dishwasher. Liquid detergent or eco-friendly dishwasher tablets are provided, to be poured or placed in the designated compartment. You can leave the clean dishes inside, and the housekeeper will put them away. As it is a country house, it is not directly connected to the public sewer system. Therefore, limit the use of detergents, soap and toilet paper and absolutely do not throw tampons or any other object into the toilet: you would block the drain. In particular, do not throw organic or coffee residues into the kitchen sink.
