“Casa Cacahuate”, the perfect place to relax and enjoy Holbox, located in a peaceful area just a 7 minute walk from the main square and the beach. The house gets its name from its peanut-like shape, designed by an artist friend in the with the direction of the island’s winds in mind. Enjoy Holbox's slow and relaxed pace charm, embracing the island’s natural character, with a little patience with the mosquitoes and wildlife, as well as the puddles that form on its sandy streets when it rains. The space *From June to September 2026, we have been renovating the house and have added a new extension featuring a porch and a private swimming pool. Welcome to the new Casa Cacahuate!* Enjoy the freedom and privacy of staying in an entire house all to yourself, with its own private grounds and saltwater pool 🌱🌿. The two-story house 🏡 is distributed as follows: - Upper floor: bedroom with a King-size bed, private bathroom, and direct access to the spacious, sunny terrace with sun loungers and a hammock. - Lower floor: bedroom with two single beds, which can also be pushed together and prepared as a King-size bed. Also on the lower floor: - Living and dining area with a fully equipped kitchen. - Direct access from the living room to a semi-enclosed, screened-in porch, featuring a dining table, hammock, sofa, and an indoor pool. From the indoor pool, you can swim underwater directly into the outdoor pool! -Patio/garden area: with the outoor pool, more hammocks, and lots of palm trees! 🌴🌴🌴 The living room has a double-size sofa bed where one additional guest can sleep (at an extra charge). The house has plenty of windows and stays naturally cool, but each room is also equipped with ceiling fans and air conditioning. For safety reasons, and because the house is made of wood, smoking 🚭 is not permitted inside the house or near the thatched straw roofs. Guest access The entire property is exclusively yours to enjoy throughout your stay. The beach is about a 7-minute walk from the house, as is the town center. The area is peaceful and away from the noise of the center, while still being close to both the beach and the main square. For this reason, most of our guests find that they don’t need to rent a golf cart during their stay. Other things to note A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT HOLBOX 🌴 (What to expect to avoid surprises!) Holbox is a beautiful, natural and somewhat wild island located within a protected nature reserve. Its charm comes precisely from its unspoiled character, but this also means that it doesn’t have all the infrastructure and conveniences you might find in more developed tourist destinations. 🦝 WILDLIFE & MOSQUITOES Nature is everywhere in Holbox! You may encounter birds, reptiles, insects and, quite commonly, raccoons. They are a protected species that live freely on the island — and sometimes they can be surprisingly noisy, even on the roof! Mosquitoes are also part of island life and can be more abundant during certain seasons. Insect repellent is highly recommended and is easy to find on the island. CASH & SERVICES There are only a few ATMs, and they don’t always work or have cash available. Although many businesses accept cards, some do not or may charge a fee. We recommend bringing enough **Mexican pesos** with you. There are pharmacies on the island for basic medicines, but if you need any specific or less common medication, it’s best to bring it with you. WATER, ELECTRICITY & PHONE SIGNAL Electricity and water come from the mainland, so occasional outages can happen anywhere on the island. Unfortunately, these are beyond our control. Mobile phone and 4G/5G coverage can also be unreliable and may disappear for several hours. The house has **satellite Wi-Fi**, so you can still stay connected even when the mobile signal is unavailable. 🌧️ RAIN & LARGE PUDDLES Holbox has mostly sandy, unpaved streets and very limited drainage. During the rainy season, heavy rain can create large puddles and muddy areas that may take several days to dry. The house is in an area that is generally easy to reach by taxi, even during the rainy season. If you’re walking after heavy rain, however, you may need to cross some puddles, so waterproof sandals or suitable shoes are recommended. During periods of particularly heavy rain, rain boots can be useful. 🌿 HOLBOX IS DIFFERENT Holbox is not Cancún. It is much more natural, relaxed and rustic. Some of the things mentioned above may feel inconvenient to some guests, while others see them as part of the adventure and the authentic island experience. At this house, I try to provide practical solutions for the things that are within my control, so you can enjoy your stay as comfortably as possible. The house has a large water storage tank, rechargeable lamps in case of a power outage, and mosquito screens on all windows and throughout the porch, we fumigate regularly for insects, the entire street has a sidewalk... And one of the special features of Casa Cacahuate: part of the pool is located inside the screened-in porch, allowing you to enjoy the water while being protected from mosquitoes — something quite unique in Holbox! The weather and nature are beyond anyone’s control: the streets can be dry today and flooded after a night of heavy rain. We simply want you to know what to expect so you can decide whether Holbox is the right destination for you.
