Description

Casa Cacahuate is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the island, in a very quiet area but very close (8 minutes walk) to downtown and the beach. Casa Cacahuate is named after its figure of 8, which was drawn and designed by a great artist friend, thinking about the direction of the winds. I hope you enjoy the charm of Holbox without haste or stress, being patient with the mosquitoes and the island's fauna, with the puddles that form when it rains in its sandy streets. The space Enjoy the freedom and privacy of staying in an entire house for you, with your own land and garden space🌱🌿. The two-story 🏡house is distributed in: two bedrooms of equal size, each with its own private bathroom; large terrace with hammock and lounge chairs upstairs; a living/dining room space with an equipped kitchen; and a garden area with many palm trees! 🌴🌴🌴 The upstairs 🛏 bedroom has a king-size bed and direct access to the large terrace. The downstairs 🛏 bedroom has two twin beds, which can also be pushed together and made up as a king size bed. The living room has a double-size sofa bed where one more guest can sleep (with an extra charge). The house has many windows and stays naturally cool, but it also has ceiling fans and air conditioning in each room. We accept pets upon request and under certain conditions. For safety reasons and since the house's structure is made of wood, smoking is not allowed 🚭 inside the house or near the thatched roofs. Guest access Patio / garden area with sofa, table and hammock. Other things to note A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT HOLBOX ISLAND (To avoid surprises) In case you're not very adventurous, I want to tell you that Holbox is a sandy island located in a protected nature reserve where efforts are made to preserve and maintain its wild state and natural ecosystem.   ISLAND WILDLIFE Holbox is a natural and wild landscape, and many species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects live together on the island... and also some humans! For example, it's not uncommon to come across groups of raccoons on the island. Raccoons are a protected species that has always lived in freedom in Holbox. Sometimes they flirt and make love (they've also been known to do it on the roof of the house), and sometimes they scream or fight each other. In short, nothing different from what humans do. As you might expect, there are also various insects in Holbox. Mosquitoes are also normal, and at certain times of the year they're abundant. The use of repellents is recommended, which can be brought or purchased here on the island. SERVICES There is only one bank on the island (Cibanco), and only two ATMs, but they do not always have money due to the growing flow of tourists. I recommend bringing enough cash (Mexican Pesos). Currency exchange offices are also available. There are some pharmacies in Holbox for basic medicines, but it's advisable to bring medicines you may need if they're not very common.   POWER AND/OR WATER OUTAGES Electricity and water are supplied from the mainland, and there may be occasional outages. The phone/4G/5G signal on the island is quite unstable, but in the house we have satellite internet so you can stay connected despite this. LARGE PUDDLES In this natural setting, there is no asphalt on its streets and in many cases no sidewalks. In the rainy season, the constant passage of golf carts and motorcycles (the island's motorized means of transportation) causes the soil to compact and form large puddles that can take several days to dry, as there is no sewerage drainage system throughout Holbox. In the streets of the town center, machines are rarely used to level the bottom of the streets and thus reduce this problem, but this is limited only to the most central, most touristy, most crowded and obviously, noisiest areas. When it has rained a lot and the puddles are very large, some taxis may not want to drive through some parts of the island. The house is located a few hundred meters from downtown. Ask the driver if he can drop you off at the Crustaceo Cascarudo Restaurant, which is 200 meters from the house. In these specific cases, you can walk, but keep in mind that you may have to get into the puddles. I advise you to wear water boots just in case. At the moment, the municipality has not found a solution to this rainy season problem. There is nothing I can do. Despite being very close, Holbox tourism is not the same as Cancun, where tourist facilities are prepared for more demanding, crowded, and leisure tourism. For some, all this may be a problem to consider when booking El Cacahuate, and for others like me, it's an adventure.   I wanted to specify all of the above because Holbox is not for everyone: if you do not like to relate to nature in its most authentic state or perhaps you are looking for a vacation where you can enjoy all the comforts you are used to, this is not the place for you.   For me and for many others who have already experienced a vacation in Holbox or a similar environment, all of the above is not a problem, but rather a real added value. The Holbox sea with its colors and abundance and the island's flora and fauna with its enormous variety and authenticity, make this corner of the Mexican Caribbean one of the few places where nature still maintains its charm. The weather is something that nobody can control, nor can we ensure that the puddles will get bigger or that they will dry up by the time you arrive. Today the roads may be fine and tomorrow it may rain at night and flood. It's nature. I can't do anything but warn you. It's YOUR decision whether or not to cancel in time to free up the dates. Not all people have the same tolerance for these circumstances. What is unbearable for you may be an adventure for someone else. Thank you and enjoy Holbox's wild nature!!
