The space This charming 2,300-square-foot farmhouse in Dowagiac, MI, blends historic character with modern comforts. Built 130 years ago and updated in 2022, it features 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a chef’s kitchen with an Italian double oven and farm sink. Surrounded by 3 private acres with a charming garden and expansive farmland, it’s perfect for outdoor activities, fireside chats, and stargazing. Inside, you’ll find a vibrant mix of antique details and cozy furnishings, from pink walls and green cabinets to block print fabrics and mismatched china. The first floor includes a pink living room with sunset views and a queen sleeper sofa, a full bathroom with hand-painted tiles, and a king bedroom with original pocket doors. Upstairs, the primary suite offers a peaceful retreat with a king poster bed, a cozy gas fireplace, and a private TV. The second bedroom features twin beds and sits just off the landing, where a work table provides a quiet spot for reading or getting things done. The third bedroom is a fun and functional bunk room with a twin-over-queen bunk bed and it’s own comfortable sitting area with a TV, making it ideal for movie nights or winding down after a fun day. All three second floor bedrooms share a beautifully updated bathroom featuring a walk-in shower and the home’s original clawfoot tub. Relax on the wraparound porch, enjoy the 4-season hot tub, a friendly game of bocce ball on the custom made court, or fire up the grill on the back deck—this farmhouse is your perfect countryside escape. Guest access You will have access to the spacious farmhouse (excluding utility area, basement, and storage rooms) 4-season hot tub, all 3 acres the property sits on, Bocce Ball court, as well as the small potting shed-outbuilding full of a vintage finds retail shop. Other things to note We strive to make your stay as comfortable as possible, but nature is part of the charm here! While we can’t guarantee a bug-free experience, we do have a tick, mosquito, and stink bug spray service that treats the property (never during your stay). Being just 20 miles east of Lake Michigan, we occasionally experience lake-effect snow. Our snow removal service plows the driveway after 3” of accumulation, and we do our best to clear the walkway and steps. However, high winds and snowdrifts from the open fields can make paths challenging, so we recommend bringing tall boots. Surrounded by wildlife, you may spot raccoons, groundhogs, deer, foxes, coyotes, wild turkeys, and more. Bats may also appear at dusk, adding to the countryside experience. We have clean, odor-free well water filtered through a water softener, which is safe and delicious to drink straight from the tap. A weekly lawn care and hot tub maintenance service will visit the property, but they’ll stay out of your way. The alarm system will be disarmed before your arrival, and if you’d like to check in before 10 a.m., please contact us in advance. For bird enthusiasts, we have a “Bird Buddy” smart birdhouse on the front porch that identifies visiting birds and occasionally squirrels. Its WiFi camera activates only when detecting activity at the feeder and does not face the house.
