A cozy two berth private cabin on a classic 1980 ocean going sailboat anchored near Cruz Bay St. John. Tandmeer is a 60' Nautical Development ocean cruising ketch, that has been sailed to and from New England and Haiti in the Caribbean every year since 2014. Your cabin is private with two comfortable bunks, opening hatch, and a private head with toilet sink and shower, in a beautiful location. The space Tandemeer is a classic 1980 world traveling 60' sailing vessel, anchored near Cruz Bay, St. John. This boat was used by Dan Akroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis in the last scene of the hit movie "Trading Places" staring Eddie Murphy in 1981. Our hospitable Captain, Sequoia Sun, has sailed to and brought aid to Haiti 14 times since the 2010 earthquake, 12 times on this boat. Tandemeer is a working boat (as opposed to a charter boat or newer luxury yacht) and has been in service to international aid operations since 2014, while Sequoia continues restoring it. When you stay on Tandemeer, not only do you get to stay on a sailboat, in a beautiful location, you can feel good knowing your stay provides financial support for the voyages delivering medical supplies and aid to clinics, orphanages and villages in Haiti and other nations struck by natural disasters. There are 4 “Staterooms” each with quality mattresses, linens and it's own private head with toilet, sink and shower. All four Staterooms share a spacious salon area, with additional sofa and traditional “settee”, and a fully equipped galley with sink, refrigerator, freezer and gas stove. The 2 forward Staterooms, one Port and one Starboard, have an individual bunk on each side of the aisle, large opening ceiling hatch, one large fixed portlight, and large storage area under the outboard bunk. The heads are forward of the cabins and the spacious shower is between the two heads. The “Crew Cabin” is in the center of the boat. It has individual bunks on each side of the center aisle and the full head with toilet sink and shower is between the 2 bunks. This cabin has 2 opening portholes plus one in the head. The Master Stateroom or “Captain's Quarters” is also available for rent. It has a Queen bed, with room to walk around it, a larger head and shower, hatch and five opening portholes. Guest access Private stateroom with two spacious and comfortable single bunks, large overhead opening hatch, large fixed portlight, private head with toilet, sink and shower, spacious dining and living saloon, large fully equipped galley, cockpit and deck space. The Dinghy and a kayak are available as needed to take you to and from shore or rent for extra fee if you wish to use them on your own. You may rent one to three staterooms. If you rent one, two or three staterooms, you might have one or more other people in another cabin and sharing the common spaces. The captain will be on board all the time and a hostess most times. The “Cockpit” is the place to hang out for Happy Hour, Sunset, or just to relax and enjoy the harbor view. Other things to note NOTES: please note that while clean, safe, comfortable and in a beautiful location, Tandemeer is a 1980 boat and is not new or pristine or in perfect condition. She is an older working boat that delivers humanitarian aid cargo each winter to Haiti. While we clean thoroughly between each guest, many of the floors, walls and counters are original and have not been painted, varnished or replaced and may appear dirty when in fact they are clean but just worn and could use refinishing. If you expect a new and pristine super luxury yacht you may be disappointed. If you are looking for an authentic sailboat experience with lots of character and charm, you will be delighted. Tandemeer is on a mooring near Cruz Bay with access by one of our dinghies. Each person must be physically fit enough to be able to climb up a short rope and wood ladder, a longer ladder down into the boat, and to step up to an upper berth. The captain will drive you to and from shore any time between 7 am and 10 pm. After hours pickup is possible by special arrangements and costs an extra $1 per minute after 10 pm.
