Unwind as the sun sets behind the pyramid shaped mountain of Niesen renowned for the world's longest staircase. Whether you're a backpacker, solo traveler or couple seeking a small base for your Interlaken escapades, or a group of friends booking our neighbouring studios, this is your ideal retreat. The space Our aim with Forest Edge was to try and offer to travellers from all over the world a clean, cozy, and beautifully designed space in a central location yet next to the forest. We wanted to keep the prices affordable (compared to other options in the region) yet still somehow provide the basic amenities one needs for a comfortable stay kitchen, bathroom, tv etc (since very often in hotels of hostels these things have to be shared with other guests). We think that this sort of accommodation is an excellent choice for unpretentious travellers, backpackers, those who don't mind stairs, design enthusiasts, people who like the concept of tiny homes and open-minded explorers. We hope this studio can be a beautiful home for you to return to after long days of exploring. BEDROOM The bedroom features one main bed, which measures 140x200cm (55x78 inches). When booking for 2, we will always have this bed prepared for you with many pillows and fresh bedsheets. If 3 guests book then we will always have the double bed prepare and a second single bed. If you are 3 guests wishing to sleep separately kindly reserve for 4 guests. And then we will prepare 2 double beds and a single bed. But then please note that sense the studio is very small there will be no space to walk comfortably. If 4 guests book we will always have 2 double beds prepared of 140x200cm. We provide duvet blankets with duvet covers. The duvet for the double bed has the size of 200x220cm (78.7x86.6 inches) and for the single bed 160x210cm (63x82 inches). KITCHEN There is a charming, compact studio kitchen. A big towel (100x150 cm or 39x59 inches) and a smaller towel (50x100 cm or 19x39 inches). Following European and Swiss standards we provide upon request a free change of towels during longer stays. Kindly note that a change of towels can be first requested only after 5 days. Lastly please keep in mind that the shower doesn't have a shower head holder. That means that while taking a shower it must be continuously held. ENTRANCE Before entering your studio there is a common space shared with other travellers (like an entrance corridor) where you will find an inspiration corner full of booklets from local companies and activities one could enjoy in the area. This is also a perfect place to take off your shoes. This helps to keep your studio clean and comfortable during your stay. OUTDOOR TERRACE Step out to the outdoor terrace, which is shared with the other inhabitants of the house. There isn’t something special about this space but it can feel wonderful to unwind on our old, vintage bench, enjoying a smoke while looking at the busy streets, the forest or the mountains behind. On a clear day and with the help of binoculars it is even possible to see the top of Europe, Jungfrau Joch! HOUSE This beautiful studio is part of a house, which once used be a hotel at the edge of the forest. At the moment its a house that welcomes locals and 4 studios are used as short term rental units, a restaurant and a bar are underneath (those never bothered us with any noise, only at the bar once were some people talking outside). The studio is located on the first floor. There is one staircase that leads up to it. HEATING SYSTEM The apartment is very well insulated. Thanks to this fact and its small size, it is easy to keep it warm. The house is heated by a central heating system through radiators. They work only during the cold months of the year. It can be that if you arrive during the first cold days of the year that the heating system has not yet been turned on. The heating is adjustable. There is a radiator in the studio, which can be controlled from the side. Number 5 is the highest setting. The room temperature won’t heat up above 20-22 degrees Celsius. This is the standard in Switzerland. For example if it’s a warm day outside it’s very likely that the radiators feel cold. COOLING SYSTEM In this region of Switzerland, air conditioners are not commonly found in homes. The way us locals ensure our homes remain pleasantly cool during the warmest days is by closing the windows, drawing all curtains, and even shutting exterior window shutters while we are out exploring or working during the day. These proactive measures prevent the homes from heating up excessively. As nightfall brings cooler temperatures, we open the windows to welcome some fresh air. Inside the studio, you will also find a table fan, which can be used to enhance airflow and create a pleasant breeze. LAUNDRY ROOM Just a few seconds away from your studio is a mini laundry room with a washing machine and dryer as well as hangers to hang your clothes (please don't take those with you or out of the room). Drying racks are also provided and can be found outside. The machines are free to use and we've got you covered with detergent. This room is shared between 4 studios. Kindly note that the 2 machines cannot be used simultaneously. PARKING A very big parking area shared between the house and restaurant. 4 spots (as seen on the check in photos sent 48h before check in) are reserved for the studios. The parking is very easily accessible from the street. It is located right under the house. During your stay you are welcome to use only one parking spot for free. Guest access The Studio is located on the 1st floor. There is one staircase to go up. Other things to note 1. We encourage you to write us a message in case you have any questions or problems. We do care for you to have a beautiful time in Interlaken and would be happy to help you with any reasonable requests! 2. Sometimes an important main ingredient/amenity might be missing from our apartment or our kitchen like olive oil, vinegar or coffee capsules. If that is the case for you we would be happy to pay for that product as long as you leave it after your stay again in the apartment and send us a photo of the bill. If we forgot to replace something and it's missing like the toaster etc please remind us so we can find a solution. 3. Interlaken is a small town completely surrounded by nature and in turn many living organisms. For that reason we would ask you to keep in mind that not all our windows have mosquito nets and if you desire to fill the apartment with fresh air, open only the windows that do have a mosquito net. In this way you can avoid any bees, mosquitos and other insects. 4. Our TV only has Netflix and YouTube. 5. Don’t forget to bring with you an adapter when traveling. We used to always provide our guests with adapters ourselves but sadly no matter how many we got they all disappeared. 6. We would appreciate it so much if you could let us know in case you spot any damage from previous guests or cause by accident damage yourself. This is something than can happen to anyone and transparency can prove truly helpful in such moments. POTENTIAL DRAWBACKS: In the spirit of transparency, we would like to address a few points that some guests may consider as potential drawbacks. We would like to provide you with all the necessary information, allowing you to make an informed decision about your stay with us. -Our rental offers a central location with a beautiful mountain view at the distance. However, kindly be aware that we are right next to a very busy car street. Big part of the noise is reduced thanks to the new windows but it can still slightly be heard. -Please note the presence of a lively bar below. While we have taken measures to minimize any disturbances, occasional noises like metal chairs or conversations have been reported. Additionally guests of the bar do not always take care to leave the place clean after themselves. Sometimes empty beer bottles, cigarettes on the floor can be spotted around the parking area. -The charm of our older, wooden door is met with a caveat – it does not provide noise insulation to the extent of modern doors. -While our location is incredibly central, we acknowledge that the neighborhood may not exude a quaint ambiance, rather leaning towards an industrial aesthetic. Yet, nestled harmoniously alongside the forest, it provides guest with the opportunity to be close to nature yet a few minutes walk from the centre. -Please note that the restaurant and bar below attract visitors who occasionally leave litter, such as empty beer bottles, near the parking area. Since these visitors are not under our control, we regret that we are unable to address this issue directly. -Once we had an occasion where there was a brief power interruption due to simultaneous appliance usage by all residents. This was caused by the main electricity switch tripping as a safety precaution. However, please be reassured that such instances are infrequent and easily resolved by resetting the main electricity switch. Just write us a message if this occurs.
