Description
Unwind in Whimsy by the Sea, our cosy dog friendly coastal cabin overlooking wild woods in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. A paradise for dogs, walk off-lead in the fields of the 100-acre Timber Hill estate, or explore the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Walk to the beach, cafes and bars of Broad Haven through the woodland (just a few minutes by car). From the cabin, you have uninterrupted views across the treetops and meadows of a wonderful wildlife haven close to the sea. The space Sit back and soak up the spectacular views from Whimsy by the Sea's elevated deck of wild woodland and rolling meadows. The valley is a haven for local wildlife, and you might see owls, bats, badgers, foxes, and all sorts of song birds. Located in Britain's only coastal National Park, with minimal light pollution and glorious starlit night skies, it’s a truly remarkable place to spend your holidays. SUNDAY DEPARTURES Please note, if you wish to depart on a Sunday, please message me before requesting to book. I have to check availability with the cleaning company first as they don't always have staff willing to clean on Sundays. THINGS TO DO Feeling active? Go horse riding, surf in Broad Haven, try Stand Up Paddle (SUP), learn kite surfing, or book a coasteering trip. Hike along the coast path, swim in one of the many quiet coves off the beaten track, or see how many different sea birds you can spot wheeling off the cliffs. Take a boat trip to Skomer Island and see the puffins, or visit one of the picturesque towns and harbour villages along the coast like nearby St David’s, Solva, Porthgain and Little Haven. Travelling with dogs? They’ll love the big, sandy dog friendly beaches in the local area, including Broad Haven and Newgale. From May to October some sections of the local beaches are restricted access, but you can still have lots of fun on the other parts of the beach. There are also wonderful circular walks to do from the cabin either in Timber Hill's grounds (100 acres is a lot of sniffing!), along the public footpaths, or over to the long distance Pembrokeshire Coastal Path – just 10 minutes walk away. The cabin deck is fenced and gated, and there's a portable fence you can roll out around the dining patio when you're using it (please put it away when you're not). I usually accept a maximum of 2 dogs, but do contact me elsewhere if you're travelling with more. I might be willing to make an exception. Dogs are charged at £30 per dog. EATING AND DRINKING There are three good restaurants, a cafe and a chip shop in the local village of Broad Haven, plus several quaint pubs and bars (and more in Little Haven, the next cove along). You can buy the essentials from the well-stocked village shop, and get anything else in nearby Haverfordwest, with its range of supermarkets (including Tesco, Marks & Spencer and Lidl), eateries and shops. Little Haven is also home to Lobster & Mor, a wonderful deli shop offering high end craft and local foods, freshly prepared sandwiches, barista coffee and side dishes to take away. THE ACCOMMODATION Accessed down a gently sloping gravel path, Whimsy by the Sea is a cedar wood cabin all on one level, entered via a couple of steps up onto the deck. The cabin’s light-filled open plan living and dining area has a double-glazed glass wall looking out over the deck and woods. There are two double bedrooms and a small dressing room /additional bedroom (blow up single mattress). The living area has two sofas, an electric log burner style fire, a dining area with a table and chairs for four, and a compact, but well-equipped kitchen with fridge-freezer, dishwasher, oven and microwave. There's a bathroom with WC, hand basin, electric towel radiator and an electric shower (the bath acts as the shower tray, the bath taps are cut off). There is a TV for watching DVDs (we have lots of films), but no ariel connection. There's also a small library with paperbacks and wildlife reference books in the dressing room, and some board games and jigsaws too. Pocket WIFI is provided, with a maximum of one free 120GB top up during your stay. If you need more, for example if you game a lot, you can also pay for access to Timber Hill’s WIFI network. Although there is usually good mobile and WIFI reception, it can cut out at times, especially if it’s stormy or very windy. BEDROOMS The cabin has two bedrooms and a small dressing room that can also be used as a single bedroom (blow up mattress, see below). Bedroom 1: The main bedroom has a king-size double bed (150x200cm) and a sliding door, and a separate dressing room next door to it (see below). Bedroom 2: The second bedroom has a double bed (140 x 190cm), storage shelves, and a sliding door. Dressing room/ Bedroom 3: the dressing room has storage shelves, hanging space and a reading area with an armchair. If you want to use it as a single bedroom, you need to move the armchair into the living room and blow up the single mattress (electric pump). You'll need to do this and make up the bed yourselves when you arrive. The bed linen will be left on the shelves for you. ALL SEASON COMFORT Designed to be comfortable in all weathers (this is Wales after all), the cabin has electric radiators in every room, plus an extra one and an electric log burner style fire in the living area. The bathroom has a fan heater for an extra blast of heat on cold nights. As we're by the sea and some days it's damp and misty, there's also a portable dehumidifier that you can use too if you need to (it works as an air purifier too). On hot days, you can open the windows on all side of the cabin to create a through breeze, and there’s also a large overhead fan in the living area, and portable fans too. A huge blind allows you to block out the sun on the window wall too if you wish. If it’s wet outside, you’ll appreciate the heated coat cupboard just inside the entrance door. It has a hanging rail for coats with a small tube heater below, hooks for leads and dog towels, and racks to store muddy shoes and wellies. This keeps all the mud and sand contained in one place. The floors are thick, painted cedar wood throughout, easy to clean and plastic-free. We’ve banished carpets, so bring your slippers! If your dog’s claws scratch the floors, don’t worry, it's all part of the rustic seaside cabin charm. OUTSIDE Outside, there’s a private gated deck at the front of the cabin and a private dining patio at the side, both with lovely views. On the east side of the cabin, there’s a quiet shared lawn area with treetop views that’s the perfect spot for morning yoga or a cuppa. There are also allocated parking spaces for two cars (nose to tail) in the small gravel parking area just above the cabin. The cabin, deck and dining patio are all private and for your sole use. The cabin is located in the 100-acre Timber Hill estate. The grounds are shared with the other cabins on the estate. Guest access The cabin, deck and dining patio are all private and for your sole use. The cabin is located in the 100-acre Timber Hill estate. The grounds are shared with the other cabins on the estate, but there is lots of space between them. Other things to note LINEN AND HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES: Bed linen (unironed) and bathroom towels are provided. Please bring your own beach and dog towels. If your dog likes to climb on the sofas and beds, please bring your own throws and bed linen. COOKING ITEMS: we provide pots and pans, but not tea, coffee, salt, sugar, spices, milk, herbs or any other food items. You need to bring your own food supplies. CLEANING FEE: the cleaning fee covers departure cleaning, linen, towels and electricity. CHILDREN & PEOPLE WITH MOBILITY ISSUES: The cabin is not suitable for babies and young children due to the steep drops, unprotected sharp edges and potentially hot surfaces. It is also unsuitable for people with mobility issues due to the stepped sloping access path, steps up on to the deck to enter the cabin, and the difficulty of exiting safely if there's a fire (you need to be able to climb through the bedroom windows if the main fire exit - the front door - is blocked, and to be able to hear the smoke alarm). SMOKING: As the cabin is made out of wood, it is non-smoking (no vaping, heats or e-cigarettes inside either). Naked flames, including matches and candles are not allowed inside or on the deck due to the fire risk. If you smoke outside, you must ensure your cigarette butts are extinguished and disposed of safely. You could start a fire and be liable for criminal damages if you do not. BBQs: BBQs are not allowed at the cabin due to the fire risk. It's a wooden building surrounded by dense vegetation and borders woodland. Any damage to the cabin or surrounding area may result in criminal proceedings. DOGS: I accept a maximum of 2 dogs, but do contact me elsewhere if you're travelling with more. I might be willing to make an exception. Dogs are charged at £30 per dog. Please keep dogs off the beds and furniture. If this is impossible, please bring your own throws and bed linen. No other pets are allowed. As a courtesy to other people staying in the grounds, dogs should be kept on lead in the immediate vicinity of the cabins, but they are allowed to be off-lead elsewhere on the estate as long as they are under control. ALLOCATED PARKING: although the cabin has an allocated parking space marked number 8 in the gravel area just above it, sometimes other Timber Hill guests park there. Unfortunately I am unable to make them move, but you can leave a polite note, it often does the trick.
