The property is eco-friendly, powered by solar energy, solar hot water heater, and we even produce our own bio-gas from food waste. The house has been specifically designed with vacation stays in mind, and carefully thought out amenities ensure your stay will be comfortable and relaxing. The main rooms are fully air conditioned, and powered primarily by solar power, but we do have a connection to grid power so you won't run out of electricity over night or on cloudy days. You will have access to the entire house, the entire swimming pool with 65ft water slide, and the entire 6.5 acre gated property. You can walk along our river path, stroll through the teak forest, or help yourself to whatever fruit happens to be in season from our orchard or gardens. Kayaks are also available for guest use free of charge, but hiring a local guide to take you down the river is recommended for less experienced kayakers. As your host I can help you arrange for a tour guide, transportation during your stay, or even a private chef. As the owner of Sanctuary at Paslow Falls I am always available via cell phone, text message, or email. The video doorbell at the main gate rings directly to my cell phone, so I am also reachable. My housekeeping staff is also available at the nearby El Pilar Hotel, and can assist you if needed as well. My property caretaker and pool maintenance person is on-site several times per week, and is available on-call for any unexpected maintenance needs that may arise. Sanctuary at Paslow Falls has been designed to be environmentally friendly. The property is run primarily by solar power, but we have grid power as a backup and the system automatically switches between solar and grid power. Hot water is provided by two solar hot water heaters (one at the main house, and one for the outdoor pool shower and laundry facilities. For those occasional times when the sun doesn't provide enough hot water we also have an Eco-friendly on-demand electric hot water heater, which comes on automatically when the solar water heater does not provide enough heat. This property was part of an old cattle ranch when purchased, and we have been replanting a variety of trees to reforest it. So far we have planted approximately 1700 trees on the property, and we continue to plant more each year. There are several mature fruit trees, and several melon patches on the property and guests are welcome to pick any fruit that happens to be in season at the time. We also produce our own bio-gas from food waste and a specially designed low flow toilet in the pool house bathroom. Since there is no trash service in or nearby the villages everyone must incinerate their own trash. We wanted to do something better, so we designed our own custom built smokeless incinerator which burns trash at super high temperatures for more complete combustion yielding less smoke and less air borne pollution. This is a work in progress with additional air filters to come, but it's a whole lot better than the alternatives. We also recycling all glass, plastic containers, and metal cans with separate recycle containers available on-site, which are taken to a recycling center near the Guatemala boarder for proper recycling.
