* Winner of Self Catering Accommodation of the Year 2025!* The Cow Shed @ Atlow Mill is a hidden gem on the edge of the Peak District. Behind the agricultural façade is a luxury interior with a modern, rustic feel. The Cow Shed offers 4 en-suite bedrooms, log burner, indoor games room (or business meeting space) and garden with hot tub and wood fired pizza oven. It is surrounded by rolling hills, a pretty brook and secluded woodland, and The Red Lion pub is just half an hour’s walk away. The space The Cow Shed @ Atlow Mill has been recently converted from an old cow shed into luxury holiday accommodation. Finished to a high standard throughout, and all on one level, the accommodation comprises: Main Living Area - with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and lots of industrial character. At one end of the large open plan space the lounge area comfortably seats 8 people and has a log burner and smart TV with complementary Netflix for cosy evenings in. The dining area also easily seats 8 people and the fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for cooking up a feast including two ovens and an induction hob, full height fridge-freezer and wine cooler for supplies, plus a breakfast bar for casual dining. Games Room – just off the living area and complete with everything you need for some old-school family fun: table tennis (medium sized table), table football, board games and children's books. There’s also a king-sized sofa bed (set up by prior arrangement only) plus a large smart TV with Netflix, a DVD player with a selection of children's films, and comfy bean bags for movie nights. **If you are looking for a meeting space with a difference for your next business event then please get in touch. Our games room can also be configured as a light, airy conference room ideal for groups of 4 - 12 people. Four spacious bedrooms – each of which can be configured with either 1 x super-king sized bed or 2 x single beds (by prior request) and each with their own en-suite with walk-in shower. Outside space: The Cow Shed has its own large, private patio and garden area, complete with outside dining for 8 people, a gas BBQ and a wood fired pizza oven for perfect evenings outside. We have also now added a 7 person hot tub to relax in while enjoying the garden. (Pizza oven and BBQ available April – October). Beyond the garden, guests are welcome to explore the shared play area, the woodland and stream and make use of the public footpath that passes the property. There is also an open sided hay barn with hay bales and a rope swing for children to enjoy during their stay. (Hay barn available during weekends and school holidays only, up to 7pm). Guest access The Cow Shed @ Atlow Mill is a truly magical place. It is tucked away in its own private valley, where birdsong and running water are about all you can hear. One of two holiday properties on the site, it is ideally positioned to explore all the Peak District has to offer and is perfect for gatherings of friends or family. Whether you enjoy walking, cycling, eating, drinking, exploring, sightseeing or shopping, The Cow Shed provides the ideal base. There is a footpath running through the field and woodland taking you to Atlow village and beyond in one direction, and directly to the Red Lion pub in Hognaston in the other for a warm welcome, great pub food and good beer. The Peak District with its spectacular scenery and popular walks such as Dovedale, Manifold Valley and Thor’s Cave are all within easy reach. Carsington Water is just down the road with a great play park, café, cycling, water sports and really good ice cream! There's lots to explore in the surrounding area including: Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Alton Towers, the Heights of Abraham, Gullivers Kingdom, Cromford Rocks, Tissington Trail & Village, Derwent Valley Mills Unesco World Heritage Site, Crich Tram Museum, Peak Wildlife Park, the Peak District Lead Mining Museum, Poole's Cavern and the market towns of Ashbourne (5 miles), Wirksworth (6 miles), Matlock (12 miles), Bakewell (15 miles), and Buxton (22 miles). If you don’t fancy cooking there are lots of great places to eat in the local area, from your traditional country pub to cosy tea rooms, cafes, and fine dining restaurants. Other things to note There is a dedicated parking area for up to 4 cars in the yard immediately outside the Cow Shed. We have two Pod Point charging points on site for electric or hybrid vehicles. There is a nominal charge, payable at the end of your stay, for using them. The hot tub is thoroughly cleaned between each stay, this means it may not be available immediately on arrival, or on the morning you leave, if we have same-day turnarounds either side of your trip. There is good (free) wifi throughout the property, but no mobile signal in the area. A generous basket of logs is included in your booking for use in the log burner and pizza oven, further logs can be purchased if required during your stay. Gas for the BBQ is also included. Henmore Brook runs along one side of the property. It is easily accessible from many parts of the site and is unsupervised. It is mostly shallow, and great for paddling, but there are two areas of deeper water (c.4ft deep). Sorry, we don’t allow pets or smoking, including e-cigarettes. We can't allow fireworks due to livestock in surrounding fields.
