Reconnect with nature at this unforgettable escape. This 60 acre property has been in the family for five generations and at one time it was owned by one of the Shelton families that the town was named for. The location at the end of the valley with the last of the huge old growth fir trees, 1/2 mile from the road, provides a view that will make your morning cup of coffee a joy. Horse people may want to bring them along to ride in the thousands of managed forest lands abutting the property. The trees in the backyard span from 400-500 years old to one that is approximately 800 years old. Between the trees sits a concrete pond with a fountain running all the time which adds to the restful, peaceful, even cathartic feeling that comes when sitting out under the trees. There is a large yard but it is soft and due to other issues (i.e. moles, tree roots) it has an uneven surface that guests need to be aware of as they move about, however it does make for a challenging game of croquet! Something NEW! We have installed a 10’ X 22’ above ground pool. Bring your swimsuit and plan to splash your way to some fun! NOTE: Fall and winter are here so the pool is down, however once it is back up it will be fully heated. There’s so much more that is interesting on this family farm from the 1887 barn, to the milk house, to the ruins of the original farm house that burned down in 1955. It’s just as interesting on the inside as it is furnished in mostly antique/vintage furniture (with a smattering of new things), other antiques displayed throughout and shuffleboard built into the floor! If you can’t fully let go of the rest of the world we have up to 1 gig of fiber (depending upon your equipment) available inside and outside the house. A focus has been made to bring our guests the exquisite experience of top of the line linens, towels and pillows to create the feeling of being treated as near royalty. After all isn’t that part of what vacation should be about? There are two full sized beds (one custom so it’s a bit wider), two twin beds that upon request can be converted into a single king and also upon request the queen sized Murphy bed will be set up. The property is in a convenient location being only five minutes from town (go grab a pizza and be back home in 30 minutes!) but when you’re here it feel like your miles away from people and the bustle. Outside of this property in this area there is such a long list of activities to do, experience or see that they are too numerous to list. We’ve listed some activities in the Guidebook that give a lot of information about this area and some surrounding activities. This information and more will also be provided in the house manual. One adventure that must be mentioned right here though is the loop that goes all the way around the Olympic Peninsula on US 101 that is a must to do for people traveling this part of the country which offers a multitude of activities along the way. The best part is that access to that highway is only five minutes from this property making this a great place to jump off from and into that adventure and oh so many others! It has been suggested that this property would be a nice place for an executive retreat, a small family group coming together to reunite, a group with a job in the area that lasts only a few days plus many more. How about extra family in town for a special occasion or over the holidays? We would love to put them up so their time here would be good with the family and good when they are on their own. Where can up to eight people stay for such an inexpensive price? Whatever your situation we are looking forward to hosting your group, book your stay now! Guests have access to all rooms of the house. There are a few locked storage areas and the garage that are not accessible. The yard and some areas of the fields are available to walk in and the trails up into the timberlands are there for exploring but care must be taken not to get lost as there are tens of thousands of acres up there. My husband and I live in another residence on the property so even though our house is basically unseen from the guest area, we are right there to respond to any needs that may arise. A call or a text should get a quick in-person response however if we are contacted and we have left the property we’ll give you a length of time until we can respond back in person. Our job is to make sure your stay is without need or worry. On the other hand we are quite friendly and enjoy meeting people so if you desire interaction we would be more than willing to spend some time chatting. My family has lived on this property for four generations so I have some background that some people find interesting. Just drop us a text. Property sits one half mile from the nearest house or paved road. Host home is down a trail across a creek and through some heavy trees so there is little chance of interaction. We do however have a shared driveway. With prior arrangements (and compensation) there are fields and stall areas that can be used by persons who wish to bring their horses to ride here or nearby. Parking for trailers is available. Guests can drive anywhere they want. Shelton is only five miles away and parking is free in town as it is here on the farm. If needed a taxi or Uber can be called to this location. Because we have livestock out in the back barn we will be walking from our home across the backyard sometime early to mid-morning and again late afternoon. Other than seeing the dogs wandering around hopefully we will move through without anyone even knowing we went by. There may be a person and the host watering and harvesting the private garden from time to time and if your stay is during hot weather the host will be by to water the flowers. With any luck all of this will take place when you are off exploring the area and you never know we were there.
