Hawthorne Valley Barn
Enjoy a unique space in this re-imagined barn turned guest house filled with an eclectic collection of furniture and art. Guests will feel inspired to relax next to the wood stove while enjoying the sound of rain on the tin roof or frogs from the nearby pond. This barn is original to the 1840s Greek Revival Farmhouse across the street but was completely and painstakingly rebuilt from its original materials and outfitted with modern amenities. Complete with a primary suite in addition to a cozy lofted 2nd bedroom, conveniently accessible by stairs (no ladders here!). The barn is located on a quiet country road and adjacent to a 20 acre biodynically managed hay field, which is biodynamically managed by the Hawthorne Valley Farm. Guests can stretch their legs with a peaceful walk down the road or by wandering the field and its ancient apple trees, which are part of the barn's property. The barn has been carefully furnished in an eclectic style with pieces ranging from locally-sourced antiques to mid-century and post-modern selections from Mooooi, Milo Baughman, Patricia Urquiola and Saarinen. Enjoy radiant heat and a fire in the wood burning stove in the winter and air-conditioning in the summer and an evening outdoors at the firepit. The primary bedroom features a comfortable king-sized bed and the lofted bedroom features a queen with high quality 100% cotton linens. The primary bedroom is fully enclosed. The lofted bedroom is accessible by a standard staircase with a handrail (not a ladder) and is enclosed with a set of swinging doors. While the doors provide full visual privacy to the space, there are some gaps between the frame and the top of the doors due to the irregular shape of the opening. Please see photos for more details on this. Other than this small opening at the top of the swinging doors, the lofted bedroom is fully enclosed and private. Prepare coffee (a Chemex set up is provided) and breakfast or a meal in the kitchenette equipped with gas range and oven, electric kettle, microwave, toaster, pots/pans, farm sink and fridge/freezer. High quality wifi, a state of the art television and a Concept2 indoor rower are also available for guests to use. a dedicated work station with a monitor and an Aeron chair are also provided. The barn is located within 10 minutes of charming shops and restaurants in Chatham, NY and within 20 minutes of Hudson NY (Amtrak Train Station). Guests can get to Tanglewood in the Berkshires in about 30 minutes and to Caatamount Ski Resort in Hillsdale NY in 20 minutes. There is convenient access to grocery stores, with the Hawthorne Valley Farm Store (a full-line organic natural foods and grocery store) a 5 minute drive away and Price-Chopper within 10 minutes. Guests have access to the barn and the outdoor space immediately accessible to it. They also have access to the 20+ acre hay field adjacent to the main house across the road. Guests are asked to please respect the privacy of the main house and the yard and garden adjacent to the main yard, where the owners reside with their family. Guests are asked to also please respect the privacy of the surrounding neighbors' property boundaries. Guests will have access to co-host Tehra, a professional property manager who lives locally, throughout their stay. Parking is available for two vehicles. A car is recommended for your stay, as public transportation is non-existent and Uber is unreliable. Bring your bike to enjoy fun and scenic riding with minimal traffic through rolling hills and beautiful farmscapes. Short- or long-term stays are available; we require a 2-night minimum. Please no pets. Many families with young children live in the area and use the quiet road for biking and playing, so guests are asked to please drive slowly and carefully as they access the barn. This is a rural setting and power outages, while rare, do occasionally occur. The barn is equipped with a battery-powered lantern in the event of an outage.
