Our secluded, new pine cottage in DownEast Addison Maine overlooks the tidal Pleasant River - 300 feet of waterfront. The view from the porch is amazing. Mosquitoes are rare. Nearby salt water marshes, walking trails in pristine woods, and up mountains with incredible ocean views. Schoodic Peninsula is near. Kitchen and bath are modern. A master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and plenty of room in the loft for one twin bed - a tight squeeze for a second. TV and high speed internet are onsite. lightly populated East Side Road borders Pleasant River and is a beautiful scenic drive with little traffic. Pleasant View Cottage Our cottage, Pleasant View, is made of cedar pine log in inside and outside and is only two years old. It overlooks 300 feet of river front. The tidal river, Pleasant River, sometimes looks like an ocean bay. Across the bay (maybe 1 to 1 ½ miles across) is about 2 to 3 miles of undisturbed forest except for one mansion. The sun sets directly over those pristine forests and are regularly stunning. Dawns are also beautiful in a different way – the landscape seem brighter some mornings and some mornings is cloaked with mists that slowly burn off. When the tide is out there are mostly mudflats with shorebirds and ducks foraging for food. We have a telescope which makes it easy to identify the birds. Every day or two you will see an immature and/or two mature eagles. Mosquitos are rarely a problem. Just sitting on the front porch in rocking chairs is our favorite activity. We also have a brick patio that you can place our lounge chairs on to enjoy the morning sun. We have two portable folding chairs that can be taken to any place you want. The cottage is nicely secluded - you cannot see the road from the cottage. The road has little traffic and if you are on the front porch, you often do not hear the minimal traffic. Mosquitoes are rarely a problem. Our cottage is tastefully decorated with many nature scenes and wildlife. Our cottage is perfect for three guests - a queen size bed in the master bedroom and a single bed in the loft. An extra bed in the loft is available but it is a tight squeeze. WiFi with high-speed internet and a TV with dozens of channels is also in the loft along with a desk for office work. We ask that you use the printer for no more than 20 pages per visit unless you leave $1.00 per additional 5 pages. The kitchen is, of course, modern but with no dishwasher. We have a washer and a dryer in utility room. The bathroom has a shower, sink and toilet (no bath tub). The dining area and living room are very comfortable and tastefully decorated. We have an outdoor propane grill. We have a fire pit. Very near our cottage are walking trails up mountains with beautiful ocean views and through pristine forests along ocean shores (less strenuous). Our cottage is only a few hundred yards from beautiful salt water marshes. The Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park is a 42 - minute drive away. It is as beautiful as the Mount Desert Island shoreline in its own way, but is much less crowded. The peninsula is a great place to ride bicycles. You are welcome to use our two brand new mountain bikes with a bike rack. Renting a bicycle is very expensive - approximately $80 daily. Two miles from the Schoodic Peninsula is Winter Harbor which has three restaurants (including a lobster pond) and a number of art/antique stores. You can take a ferry from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island. The drive to Bar Harbor is 78 minutes. A large hardware/variety store and a large grocery store are 7 minutes from our cottage. I am sure you will have many pleasant memories of your stay at Pleasant View.
