Ocean View Room at Gaia Soul - Skate, Surf & Yoga
Gaia Soul
Description
The Peacock Room at Gaia Soul sits in a fishing village on the south coast of Sri Lanka where mornings begin with ocean air and evenings usually end on the rooftop with whoever’s still awake. Built for slow coastal living, it’s a place for post-surf naps, hammock afternoons, open-air showers, and conversations that drift long past dinner. Somewhere between a guesthouse and a shared way of life. The space Gaia Soul Guesthouse Gaia Soul is a family-run guesthouse in the fishing village of Kaluketiya on Sri Lanka’s south coast, just outside Dikwella. Built between the jungle and the sea, it’s a place shaped by salt air, skateboards, surf wax, shared meals, and the slow rhythm of village life. People come here for different reasons. Surf. Yoga. Work. Rest. Sometimes they arrive burned out and leave softer around the edges. Sometimes they plan to stay three nights and somehow end up extending twice. The Main House Four double rooms sit above an open communal space where life naturally gathers. Coffee turns into conversations. Dinner becomes a late night on the rooftop. Someone reads in a hammock while someone else comes back from a surf and drips seawater across the floor. The rooms are simple, thoughtful, and open to the outdoors, with open-air bathrooms, foldaway balcony bars, hammocks, workspaces, and enough breeze that air conditioning often feels unnecessary. Downstairs is the shared kitchen, lounge, dining area, plunge pool, and the halfpipe that tends to pull people together faster than introductions ever could. The Family Rooms Next door are two larger rooms designed for families, groups of friends, and people travelling together. Each sleeps up to six with loft beds tucked beneath the roofline, open-air bathrooms, reading corners, and outdoor spaces where mornings drift slowly into afternoons. Kids disappear between the playground and skatepark while adults lose track of time somewhere between the rooftop and the ocean. The Shala Upstairs is the yoga shala, small gym, and massage area. Some people stretch. Some train. Some lie flat on the mat listening to the ceiling fan spin while rain moves through the palms outside. The Rooftop The rooftop is where everyone eventually ends up. Sunrise coffees. Post-surf coconuts. Sunset skies turning strange colours over the Indian Ocean. Music low in the background. Someone telling a story that keeps getting interrupted by laughter. Gaia Soul was never meant to feel like a polished resort. It’s a little wild around the edges. Social when you want it to be. Quiet when you need it. A place where people from different corners of the world end up sharing space, waves, meals, and pieces of their lives for a little while. Guest access In addition to their rooms on the first floor, guests have access to ground floor and garden area which features the half pipe, plunge pool and outdoor shower.
