Quirky 16thC home, central, en-suite, dog friendly

Description

Centrally located in historic Beccles, 400 years old, Grade II listed, and built in a striking Flemish style, it sits close to the quay, river, and a heated Lido. The house is quirky, spacious, and bursting with character. We love making guests feel at home and offer a breakfast tray delivered to your room at a pre-agreed time to start your day right. While there’s usually no on-site parking, we’ll share details of free/cheap nearby options, and there’s rear access for easy unloading. The space Quirky, characterful, and full of history—our home is like a Tardis, far more spacious than it appears! Each room has its own unique style, filled with colour and comfort to make you feel at home. Flemish House has stood for over 400 years, and while we’re lovingly restoring it after years of neglect, we ensure your stay is as comfortable and welcoming as possible. Step outside and everything is within easy reach—cafés, pubs, antique shops, river walks, paddleboarding, canoeing, ferry rides, and the famous heated lido. The train station is just a 7-minute walk, and buses can whisk you away to Southwold’s stunning coast or Norwich’s historic charm. If you love places with personality, history, and a touch of the unexpected, you’ll love staying here! Guest access You are welcome to share the courtyard if it's sunny and would prefer breakfast outside on warmer days. There is a TV/sitting room on the second floor (just be aware the stairs up to it are not for the very elderly or wobbly footed). During your stay We really love to make people feel welcome and it's a home from home experience. As we both work from home it is normally possible to welcome you, along with our two smallish dogs who are very excited and friendly with new people, but will quickly settle down. When we are away visiting family/friends we have the support of the lovely Ruth, our neighbour, who will be around for you. If for some reason we/Ruth are not available when you arrive we do have a key box and will give you full instructions for access. Other things to note We do not have any parking facility at our house (a quirk of being on a very ancient street) and we leave our vehicles in various places around the town and it's not an issue. Occasionally we are able to borrow a nearby parking space for guests and will let you know prior to your visit if this is available. If not we will send you free and paid parking suggestions for around the town and you can check them out and often pre-pay on a website. It's a good idea to drop your bags with us using the back of the property before parking your car, and we will give you full instructions if you wish to do this. If you are cycling we have plenty of safe space in and out of the house for bikes. Please note we have 2 smallish dogs who will be very pleased to welcome you!
