Description
Lemongum is a beautifully curated cottage situated on Banongill Station, at Skipton in Western Victoria. The cottage has been restored to create a country escape, a place to relax and unwind in the beautiful surrounds of the historic Banongill garden. Lemongum is perched above the Mt Emu Creek on the edge of the informal wild garden, with drifts of daffodils and spectacular blossom trees. Sit by the fire pit, listen to the kookaburras, take a deep breath and keep an eye out for the platypus. The space Lemongum is a beautifully curated space, a place to switch off and relax while enjoying the views to the magnificent red gums along Mt Emu Creek and the gardens of Banongill Station. The cottage is nestled above the creek on the edge of the wild garden, the informal section of the renowned and historically significant Guilfoyle designed garden surrounding the spectacular Banongill Homestead. The wild garden is known for the rugged banks of the creek, the spring blossoms and the drifts of daffodils. Banongill Station was once a bustling sheep station employing up to sixty people and it remains a working sheep and cropping farm. The historic buildings still surround the garden and are being restored to their former glory. Lemongum has been thoughtfully styled to complement the beautiful surroundings with colours and artworks chosen to reflect the creek and garden. The kitchen includes timber bench tops made from the old floors of the shearers quarters and is equipped with all the equipment you will need to cook up a storm. As the cottage is some distance from town, the kitchen is the perfect place to prepare and cook a meal together on the beautiful English cooker while you enjoy a glass of wine around the island bench. There are two bedrooms with queen beds. Bedroom one has a romantic floral theme and is styled with luxurious Cultiver linen and a bespoke bedhead. The window looks out across the garden to the creek. The adjoining bathroom has a walk in shower and is tiled with bluestone to reflect the use of stone throughout the garden. Bedroom two is moody and is the perfect place to curl up with a good book. It features a bespoke checked bedhead and luxurious Cultiver linen. The bathroom has an original clawfoot bath, which was once in the homestead, and has a view out to the beautifully scented Lemongum tree the cottage was named after. The dining room is painted green, a perfect frame for the view from the window of the river red gums along the creek. Styled with vintage finds, the dining room has a table seating six and all you need to whip up a cocktail to enjoy before dinner. The lounge room is a large space with a wood heater to curl up in front of. In warmer weather you can open the French doors onto the verandah, enjoy the smell of the Lemongum and hopefully hear the kookaburras. There are board games and a carefully considered selection of beautiful books, some of which feature the garden at Banongill. Lemongum is about winding down, creating memories and enjoying the stunning natural surroundings. To encourage guests to do this there is no television in the cottage, there is wifi however, so if you wish to bring your own device you are welcome to. There is also a Bose bluetooth speaker for guests to use. The area surrounding Lemongum includes a verandah with outdoor chairs and a bbq. There is a fire pit area in front of the cottage and plenty of wood nearby. The Mt Emu creek is close to the cottage and is perfect for exploring or picnicking. We encourage you to wander along the creek or even try your luck fishing. We regularly see a Platypus in front of the cottage, usually at dusk, making it a great place to sit with a drink and watch the sunset. Guest access You are welcome to wander through the garden at the homestead but as this is a private residence we ask that you respect our privacy when doing so and try to only do this between 9am and 5 pm. The pool is for private use only but you are welcome to use the tennis court. Other things to note Lemongum has been carefully curated with vintage finds and items collected during our travels, and there is an unfenced deep waterway close to the house. If you choose to stay with children please be aware that the property is more suited to adults and children will need close supervision. Banongill Station is a family owned working farm. Please be careful on the tracks and driveways, obey speed limits and be aware that there may be moving vehicles, farm machinery and livestock. As we have livestock on the farm we are unable to have pets at the cottage. As staying at the cottage is about slowing down and relaxing, you won't find a microwave or television .
