Immerse yourself in the natural beauty that surrounds this bucolic cabin perched on the banks of pristine Cayuta Creek. Located on our 75 acre organic orchard and cidery, it is a short drive to Ithaca, Watkins Glen, Finger Lakes wineries, state parks and gorges. Nature surrounds you: water rushing, a tree frog chorus, beavers swimming by, bald eagles fishing trout. Enjoy hanging out and eating meals on a wraparound deck overlooking the water. Easy access, remote feeling.*Composting toilet* Built in the early 2000's from salvaged and recycled materials and completely remodeled and updated in 2022, the cabin is both rustic and elegant. The space is 20' x 14', two stories, and 560 square feet with a wrap around deck right on the banks of Cayuta Creek. The downstairs features a living area with comfy chairs and a futon couch around a Woodstock soapstone stove which can be used for heating in cold weather. The Futon can convert to a double bed if extra sleeping space is needed. Also downstairs, a pine dining table that seats 5 and a full (but apartment-sized) kitchen with a gas stove and oven, mini-fridge and toaster oven. Help your self to coffee and tea, a french press and kettle are available for use. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the spices, pots, pans, dishes and utensils you'll need for cooking and eating. Cleaning supplies are also stocked. The cabin is serviced by a grey water system in a sensitive ecosystem. Please do not use any non-biodegradable soaps or products. *The sink has cold water only. For washing dishes, heat water on the stove. The upstairs is a bedroom with an open ceiling, plenty of natural light, views of the creek and valley and nooks for each bed. Bed 1 is a king, bed 2 is a twin and bed 3 is a cot. Beds are made with 100% cotton linen and handmade Mexican blankets. There is a seating area for relaxing and a window fan for keeping cool. The upstairs is accessed by a steep (ladder-like) set of stairs which may not be appropriate for young children or folks with mobility issues. You'll want to spend a lot of time on the wrap around deck which features a picnic table for outdoor dining complete with a sunshade and string lights, a built-in seating area for hanging out, and the sights and sounds of the creek. A Coleman grill, charcoal and hardwood are provided for your outdoor cooking pleasure. The bathroom arrangement includes and composting toilet and an outdoor shower. The Nature's Head vented composting toilet is smell-free and in a separate room from the cabin accessed via the deck. Instructions for use and assistance provided. Have you ever taken a shower in the moonlight? The outdoor show is on the back of the cabin and is serviced by an on-demand heater for endless hot water. All natural soap, body wash and conditioner are provided. The shower is elevated and accessed by a small ladder and may not be suitable for very small children or folks with mobility issues. The cabin is surrounded by a mowed area where you can find a fire pit (complementary fire wood provided). By the cabin there is creek access for fishing, wading, swimming and tubing. Cayuta Creek is a renown trout fishing stream. All adults wishing to fish must purchase a license from NYSDEC. They are affordable and support conservation efforts. The cabin is located on our 75 acre working farm and is home to our NOFA-NY certified organic apple orchards and acclaimed cidery. If you want to explore, you can walk the mowed trail along the creek, visit the cows and the apple orchard, and pick veggies from the high tunnel (in season). Although the cabin feels remote, it is easy to access. Parking is at the end of the driveway and there is a 100' long gravel path to the cabin. Autumn and Ezra live and work on the property and are available by phone or text if you have questions or need help. There are a few unconventional aspects to the cabin and it is not a fit for everyone. Please make sure your are comfortable with the following before booking: *Composting toilet. Nature's Head composting toilet. This toilet is vented and oder-free. Detailed instructions for use are posted. For larger groups and longer stays, you may need to empty the containers. Hosts are available to help if needed. *Steep stairs. Both the bedroom and outdoor shower are accessed by ladder-like stairs. They may not be suitable for young children or folks with mobility issues. *Water. The cabin is located on the banks of a creek. It is not a good fit for families with children who can not swim.
