Serene, modern, off-grid, solar-powered barn on private pond is the perfect retreat. Unplug with us; immerse yourself in our forest with two solid glass walls to bring you closer to nature while staying in our simple yet elegant retreat with all comforts of home. 5 min walk to pond & seasonal picnic shelter. 40 acres at the end of a 2 mile private gated road for peace & quiet. Sleeps 7: K, K+twin, K (loft) Book sister cabins for more guests. AWD SUV or truck required. Off-grid, so no A/C. Our house features total immersion in our forest; its location and views--which face privately-owned land--were chosen to assure total privacy. The beautiful features inside offer a perfect view regardless of where you look. A pellet stove provides heat when needed. WiFi is available, but our satellite internet can be slow at times - fine for surfing/email, while streaming sometimes works well and sometimes not. Cell reception is very limited. Our nearby homestead is a work-in-progress and construction is ongoing, but we halt any loud activities when guests are staying with us. A brief walk to the point on our pond is perfect for nature-watching, and a small screen room tent is set up seasonally for your bug-free enjoyment. Access and Getting Around (PLEASE READ before booking): Our gated, winding, two mile gravel/dirt camp road takes you on a journey from civilization to seclusion. We recommend driving it with care and a vehicle with high ground clearance such as a crossover, SUV, or truck. AWD or 4x4 and studded tires are required as there are steep sections of road and we do not spread sand/salt. Entire home is yours to enjoy! The pellet stove will be running when you arrive if it is fall/winter, and pellets will be provided for your comfort. Our cozy, pond-side barn is about 15 minutes to Jay or Livermore Falls where you can find groceries, restaurants, pharmacies, and a post office. The college town of Farmington is a 25-30 minute drive and the closest town with a theater, great restaurants, shops, and a farmers market every Saturday (May through October). We are 50 minutes from Auburn/Lewiston and 55 minutes to Augusta. There are many seasonal hiking options in the area in addition to short hikes available on our property. Skiing and boarding options can be found nearby at Sunday River (70 minutes) and Sugarloaf (80 minutes); local hills are Titcomb in Farmington - great cross country trails (30 minutes)--and Spruce Mountain in Jay (15 Minutes). Our gated, winding, two mile gravel/dirt camp road takes you on a journey from civilization to seclusion. We recommend driving it with care and a vehicle with high ground clearance such as a crossover, SUV, or truck. AWD or 4x4 and studded tires are required when snow/ice is on the ground, as there are steep sections of road and we do not spread sand/salt. The sister cabins can be booked separately to add four guests to your party. Note that the outdoor amenities like the fire pits, kayaks, etc. are shared. Kayaks are available seasonally from May 1st thru October 31st. The home and cabins are completely private.
