Surrounded by the Pentland Hills Regional Park, the Byre cottage on Eastside Farm offers unique family accommodation for 4 near Edinburgh. The farm and hills offer excellent exploring + hiking from the doorstep. Enjoy the great outdoors with the kids for stunning views, walks, and picnics! Edinburgh is only a short drive - or take a picnic to the nearest hill top then return to sooth your tired legs in the wood-fired sauna yurt. Private sauna sessions available as an extra to book on arrival. The space Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this cosy retreat in the Pentland Hills is part of the beautifully converted 18th Century Eastside farmstead. The double height kitchen with old flagstone floor is perfect for a family feast (seating six) around the generous farmhouse table. Take glasses of whisky outside, wrapping up warmly by the fire pit in your private cottage garden. The large open plan kitchen/ dining area has an open staircase up to the cosy but spacious living room with sofas, wood burning stove, tv, dvd, books, games and complimentary Netflix. The lower ground floor is home to a double room with ensuite shower room and twin room with separate bathroom, sleeping 4 people comfortably. A cot and highchair are available on request for children. The entrance hall has a utility room with toilet, washer, and dryer and plenty room for hiking boots and walking gear. Embrace slow-living with the wood-fired steam sauna yurt hidden in the woodland garden. Private, 2 hour sessions are available to book on arrival at an additional fee. Note that the sauna is only open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays - although we reserve the right to alter the specific times and days available as necessary. Guest access As a guest you have the private use of the whole cottage and plentiful logs for your wood burning stove and outdoor fire pit. The surrounding hills are yours to explore. Maps, flasks, tin mugs and a rucksack are provided to allow you to make the most of your surroundings. Hike from the doorstep or hire bikes a short drive away. The wood-fired sauna and plunge pool can be booked on a private-use basis and can be lit for you with sauna robes and towels provided. Private sessions can be booked on arrival for a small fee. Other things to note We are situated off the beaten track, hidden in a quiet glen in the Pentland Hills. Access to the cottage is up a 1 mile farm track. The track can be a little rough in places but shouldn't cause problems for ordinary cars. There is parking for one car provided. (30 seconds walk from cottage). Additional parking by arrangement. EV chargers are available. Luggage + shopping may be unloaded outside the cottage. As the cottage is 1 mile from the main road, we recommend the use of a car for the duration of your stay. We have a fibre internet connection with excellent wifi speeds. Inside, the accommodation is very quiet with thick stone walls and triple glazing. The accommodation is on Eastside Farm - an organic working hill farm and the surrounding landscapes are managed by us within various agri-environment schemes to encourage bio-diversity. Green electricity is generated via our wind-turbine. Private steam sauna sessions may be booked on arrival for an additional fee. Sessions last up to 2 hours and take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays - although we reserve the right to alter the specific times and days available as necessary.
