He built it with three bedrooms, so his wife and kids would be happy. He built it with a deck, so he and his wife could watch the sunrise in the morning, because that made him happy. He built a shed too, where he could tinker and play, while his kids tinkered and played by the creek, because that made him and his kids happy. Over the years they would fish in the creek, ski at nearby Plattekill and Belleayre ski mountains, hike in the hills, cookout on the deck, plant flowers, watch eagles soar, see deer in the meadow, hear owls in the dark, catch fireflies, find constellations in the night sky, build snow forts, build campfires, and create a million precious memories. Batavia Creek Cabin is a three bedroom one bath house that was built in 1985. We're located 10 minutes from Fleischmanns and Margaretville, NY two and a half hours north of NYC. It’s perfect for a couple or two or a family. In the summer, there's hiking, fishing, tubing, golf and swimming for those who want to be active and exploring the charming towns of the Catskills or just reading a book by the river for those who want to chill out. Winter brings skiing at Belleayre and Plattekill and cozy evenings by a warm fire. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a fully equipped kitchen, a variety of coffee making options,, board games, books, and an internet/Netflix enabled TV. The Kitchen Daniel loves to cook and he has set up a simple but well supplied kitchen including a Henckels knife set and a ceramic knife sharpener (as blunt knives are the worst), a La Creuset dutch oven, airfryer and Cuisinart pots and pans. We hate buying kitchen basics for a short stay so we’ll provide kitchen basics such as olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sugar and herbs and spices. Working from home For those of you who need to work from home, there are two desks, second monitors and high speed internet. Outdoors Our favorite place is outside whether it’s on the deck grilling some food and enjoying some alfresco dining overlooking the river, cooling off in the river or roasting s'mores by the firepit. Kids will enjoy the trampoline, fishing and exploring the grounds with its maple and apple trees and wild berries. Please note: the outdoor dining table and chairs are packed away during winter and not available Dec - Mar. Bedrooms Two rooms have king beds and one has a queen. Mattresses are from Tuft and Needle, Casper and Allswell, You’ll find a mix of pillows including contoured pillows to suit your preferences. Kids We have a five year old and so we love kids and can provide a kids pack on request (including high seat or booster and bed pad). However, please note that this is a cabin and has not been kid proofed. The river is accessible from the house and the deck is elevated (has a good fence but something to be aware of). Pets We understand pets are part of your family and they are welcome to stay for an additional fee. We only ask you keep them off the beds and furniture. We’ve been enchanted by Batavia Creek Cabin and made it our home - now we’re sharing it with people who are looking for magic in the Catskills. Margaretville is an adoreable town - full of Catskills charm and stocked with all the amenities and conveniences you need. As you drive in, there is a fully stocked supermarket, CVS pharmacy, ice cream shop, gift & toy shop, and various shops and galleries on Main Street including a wine & liquor store, Cafe Marguerite (a local favorite!) and wonderful restaurants, including Trattoria Locale, Binnekill Tavern and Picnic. There is even a charging station located in town for electric vehicles. The nearby town of Arkville also boasts several amenities including the Delaware & Ulster Railroad, Ark Bowl & BBQ and Bread and Breakfast. All in all, Margaretville is perfectly situated for all kinds of year round activities given its proximity to Belleayre Ski Resort, Plattekill Mountain, Esopus Creek, Belleayre Beach, Alder Lake, Pakatakan farmers market and numerous hiking trails. We know you will enjoy this town as much as we do! Batavia Creek Cabin is: ~ 8 minutes to Pakatakan Farmers Market (mid-May to mid-October) ~ 10 minutes to the towns of Fleischmanns and Margaretville and a variety of wonderful restaurants and shops. ~ Closest supermarket is 10 minutes - Freshtown Marketplace in Margaretville (large and well stocked) and a smaller grocery store in Fleischmanns ~ 10 minutes to Margaretville Hospital ~ 11 minutes to town of Roxbury - Watershed cafe and specialty grocery store ~ 15 minutes to Belleayre Ski Resort and Belleayre Beach in Summer ~ 15 minutes to Plattekill Ski Resort ~ 28 minutes to Phoenicia Diner ~ 45 minutes from Windham Ski Resort ~ 45 minutes from Hunter Mountain Ski Resort ~ Surrounded by miles and miles of hiking trails! We recommend a 4WD during winter. There is also a parking spot at the top of the drive for those who would prefer not to navigate the drive and we recommend parking there when snowing. There is a Trailways bus from NYC to Fleischmanns and a car service can be taken from there to the property but having a car is best for getting around. We recommend a 4WD during winter.
