The Red House
Welcome to our historic and charming home, tucked away on 50 acres of beautiful, serene woodland. Built in 1840, our 2200 square foot residence combines the authenticity of centuries-old wood beams with cozy, comfortable interiors. The Red House is close to the charming towns of the Hudson Valley: Chatham, Kinderhook, Ghent and Hudson. There is also easy access to Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, Mass MOCA, Williamstown and Tannery Pond. The house features two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, perfect for a small family or a few friends looking for a relaxing retreat. Since the house was built in 1840 and has most of the original features, be prepared for some endearing irregularities. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, spices, oil and vinegar, coffee and tea. The entire upstairs and the first floor bedroom have central airconditioning. The living room, dining room and kitchen do not since they have great cross breezes. Enjoy a view of the Berkshires from the patio with outdoor seating or wander in the 50 acres of surrounding woods. Just a short walk down the road is the William M. Powell Wildlife Sanctuary with 145 acres of incredible bird watching and hiking. You will have the whole house to yourselves. We do ask that you not go in the basement or the barn. We do not live nearby but our daughter is just down the road. We do have a caretaker who can help out if needed. We are always available by text or email. The Red House is set on 50 acres on a gravel road near the town of Old Chatham. Just a short walk down the road is the Wilson Powell Wildlife Sanctuary with wonderful bird watching, hikes and views. It is best to have a car to fully appreciate the area. Public transportation is not available to the house. We have a parking area that can hold 4 cars, although there is also plenty of parking along the road. Old Chatham town center is a historic town with two lovely restaurants. Jackson's Old Chatham House is a local favorite. The Old Chatham Country Store recently reopened and is serving breakfast and lunch, Thursday - Sunday and has had very good reviews. Chatham, a 10 minute drive, is filled with retail shops, galleries and excellent restaurants. Hudson is 30 minutes away and has become a mecca for antique furniture, vintage clothing and home goods, not to mention more great restaurants.
