Description
A charming, historic house in the heart of a quintessentially beautiful Somerset market town. This is a well-loved and cared for family home with all the character of a period property; exposed floor boards, panelling, original flagstones and sash windows. The house is full of art and colour, it has a cosy, atmospheric dining room, a sunny walled garden and modern country kitchen. For groups with children, it has the bonus of playroom and trampoline. The space This 18th century double fronted house in the centre of Martock is a cosy and colourful family home, build in lovely local golden hamstone. Enter through an iron gate to the front garden and into the central flagstone hallway. A good sized sitting room with log burner, panelling, bookshelves and TV is incredibly warm and inviting in the winter and stays cool and comfy in the summer. The family kitchen is big enough to seat 6 around the table, with a gas stove, double American fridge freezer, dishwasher, double butler's sink, microwave and all modern cooking utensils. We are enthusiastic cooks so you should find everything you need for your stay. The kitchen overlooks and has access to the beautiful south facing walled garden and is flooded with light in the afternoons. There is a separate dining room with a table that seats 8 comfortably, a beautiful original fireplace, wooden floorboards and a Georgian sash window that looks out to the front of the house. Through past the dining room is a children's playroom stuffed to the brim with toys! As well as a large sofa and access through stable doors to the walled garden. There is a spacious downstairs toilet. Upstairs, the family bathroom has a freestanding bath with good quality shower. The twin bedroom is the largest in the house with two modern sleigh beds and a large desk. Two further larger rooms house a super king and kingsize bed respectively, the former with dual aspect views over the garden. There is a second bathroom with toilet, sink and modern walk-in shower. The walled garden is very sheltered and a south facing sun trap. There is a trampoline and a swing, a terrace with table and chairs/bench and a bbq. The house is decorated with antiques, art and interesting things. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. The house benefits from being within a few minutes' walk of local amenities such as a small but well stocked Coop, post office, pharmacy, hair salons, fish and chip shop and bakery. The surrounding area boasts some of the South's most beautiful countryside and villages. We have lots of recommendations for things to do and see in our house manual but would nee happy to answer any questions at all. Guest access All of the house, with the exception of the attic and boiler/storage room. Other things to note This is an historic and characterful home, not a clinical holiday rental, so we hope to attract people who will appreciate this.
