Campsite in Medford
Description
Located directly on the side of the majestic Piscataquis River, and just outside of Howland & Medford Maine with their convenient amenities and friendly local atmospheres. Enjoy the pure sounds of nature from the running river to the wind rustling the trees when you stay on this unique primitive site surrounded by forest with no immediate neighbors, and only very sparse vehicular traffic. An ideal spot for fly-fishing, fishing in general, kayaking, canoeing, and ATV trail riding for sure! The space Quiet 98.9% of the time. Just outside of town which feels reassuring and provides the access to surprisingly excellent cell signal (with Verizon and T Mobile that we're personally aware) despite how rural and mostly undeveloped it still is, and within ~15 minutes of two local convenient stores—both of which have kitchens and one has a small meat cooler as well. However, there’s a small local grocery store (Tradewinds) in Milo just ~20 minutes away that we personally highly recommend; our strong ‘local guide’ recommendation to guests would be to navigate first directly to the Tradewinds grocery store in Milo to reach it via the turnpike, then travel to the site via the road from Milo and Medford direction, which are far better roads (avoiding a small bad section from Howland/Maxfield) and a beautiful scenic drive. It's very lush green all around with the wonderful sounds of the river. Guest access A spacious private site with ample surrounding forest to yourself to enjoy; fish the river and forage for firewood. Across the road is acres upon acres of pure forest. Other things to note Quiet 98.9% of the time. It's very lush green all around with the wonderful river sounds. A perfect stopover on your way to or from Baxter State Park/Mt. Katahdin. If you're wanting a spot for a small- to mid-size RV this is ideal. You can dump and fill water for just $5--or for free with fill-up--at Dysart's Restaurant & Truck Stop on 530 Coldbrook Rd, Hermon, ME 04401. They're likely on the way there and on the way back home for the majority of travelers, and depending on which other direction you may from or how long you're staying, it's only roughly a ~40 minute travel there from the site, and with plenty of access to stores and food along the way and there. Their RV dump and water fill station is available 24 hours and it's across the street from the main gas station/restaurant at the other Dysart building--follow the signs that the station is now around on the back right side of the building.
