Nestled in the foothills of the mountains, sits the colorful, tiny casita, the "Taos Bird House". This cozy bird nest is surrounded by mature trees, while the wrap around deck overlooks the Taos river (runs, seasonally). Enjoy, beautiful, original bird art throughout, painted by your very own co-host. It’s like living in your very own gallery! Minutes from shopping, art galleries, hiking, museums and delicious restaurants! We are 1.5 miles to the town Plaza and 20 miles to the Taos Ski Valley. The space Located off the Enchanted Circle, and close to town, this 350 sq. ft. private, tiny house, sits on half an acre with the main house. The casita deck overlooks the Rio de Fernando Taos river (runs seasonally, the river is snow run off and water flow varies per year). You'll enjoy listening to the birds chirp from the multi-level wraparound deck, and the water babbling in the river. Seating for four on the upper level, is perfect for outdoor dining, while the lower level is equipped with piñon fire wood and a smokeless Solo Stove fire pit, perfect for the chilly nights! Due to insurance reasons, we don’t allow fires inside but have flickering, LED candles to add to the ambience. For additional relaxation or a nap, enjoy the outdoor hammock! Upon entering the Taos Bird House you will notice the bright, vivid colors and instantly feel the Taos vibe! A small, table for two sits in the corner where you can bird watch out the window. The kitchenette has a mini fridge with top freezer microwave (no oven or stove), toaster, kitchen utensils and disposable bowls/plates. A Keurig coffee maker is on the counter with coffee, creamer and sugar for guests to enjoy. Tea is also provided. A beautiful, handmade queen bed frame sits in the middle of the room and is equipped with a Tuft and Needle memory foam mattress. 1000 thread count Egyptian Cotton sheets, luxury Turkish bath linens and brightly colored bedding will make you feel right at home in Taos. Extra throw blankets and towels are provided. The TV sits above the dresser and has Amazon Fire TV, Netflix and Hulu if you feel like binge watching your favorite show and prefer a night in. Guests can pick apples, apricots and pears on the property in late Summer - Fall. My husband, Howard (co-host) is the artist that painted all of the bird art in the casita (weliver.com). Guest access The tiny house is very private, it is set back from the main house and separated by a fence and our backyard. Guests have their own private driveway (best accommodated for small to mid-sized vehicles), the gate will remain open so you can come and go as you please. We live in the neighborhood of Cañon, it's a very safe area that's close to town, but far enough way that you feel removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. Other things to note We now have a three night minimum! Due to insurance reasons we don't allow fires inside, wood is provided for the outdoor fire pit. The kitchenette has a microwave, toaster and mini fridge. There is NOT a stove or oven. No grill is provided (we have bears in the area). 4x4 or all wheel drive is needed in the winter months, we get all four seasons in Taos and it does snow, and sometimes it's a lot of snow!! It's been said, that Taos has more artists per capita than Paris France. We are only a short drive down Kit Carson Road where you will run into all types of art galleries. We have many delicious restaurants which are both reasonably priced and higher end. We average nearly 300 days of sunshine per year. If you plan to ski or visit Taos Ski Valley it's a 30 minute beautiful drive. Come enjoy the unique history, traditional and contemporary arts, hot air balloon rides, white water rafting, hiking, etc.. Don't miss a Taos sunset, they are truly magical!
