Other things to note Anoka was built-up in the mid-1800s around logging operations, where the Rum River and the mighty Mississippi River come together. Later the town profited from potato production, shoe manufacturing, and a state-run hospital. By 1937, Anoka became nationally recognized as a Halloween destination when 12-year-old Harold Blair won a trip to Washington D.C. and brought with him a sweater sewn with an Anoka the Halloween patch on it and a proclamation that named Anoka as the Halloween Capital of the World. It was also one of the first cities in the United States to put on a Halloween celebration that discourages people from playing tricks or causing trouble. If you love Halloween and all the creepiness that goes along with it. You will want to go on one of the many Guided Cemetery Tours or Ghost Tours throughout the historical town. Anoka is a beautiful small town with lots of places to explore and offers walks along the riverfront. Stop by the dam to enjoy some fishing, or go to a concert at one of the beautiful parks just over the river. Anoka is a short 30-minute drive to US Bank Stadium, Target Field, or the Excel Energy Center. You can go see the Vikings, Twins, the Wild, or enjoy one of the many concerts these venues host. Hope you will enjoy your stay and some of the attractions we have listed. You may also use our welcome booklet to find many fun local attractions.
