Description
Lake Kaniere Lodge is situated 20 minutes east of Hokitika in a Scenic Reserve at the south end of Lake Kaniere and all Scenic Reserve rules must be respected. Parties can travel via the Lakeside Drive or through Kokatahi. The Lodge accommodates up to 40 individuals (in two 17-person bunk rooms and two 3-person quarters) and has most modern appliances, excluding cell phone reception and internet access. Users need to supply their own bedding. The space Accommodation Two separate bunk rooms with a bench bunk and mattresses in each can sleep up to 17 people. Two smaller rooms containing beds for 3 people are also available on the same level. Mattresses must be respected and stored on the edge in one corner on leaving. Users will have to supply their own SLEEPING BAGS/SHEETS AND PILLOWS. BBQ There is a permanent BBQ at the rear of the lodge but you need to supply your own dry wood. The Lodge is in a Scenic Reserve and no vegetation must be destroyed. There is a Gas BBQ sitting inside the door to the deck that can be used. Please ensure that it is cleaned prior to bringing it back inside. Cooking Cooking is on two four plate modern electric stoves. There is a refrigerator, a freezer and a commercial toaster. Equipment Pots, pans, knives, forks, spoons, plates and cups are supplied, sufficient for 40 persons. Tea pots and a boiling zip are provided. A dry vacuum cleaner, brooms, mops, bucket and dust pans are provided. Heating There are two permanently mounted heaters in the dining area and one in each large bunkroom. These have wired in timers that last for a two hour duration. These heaters must not be removed from the wall and NO additional heaters are permitted for Health and Safety reasons. Remember you are in a wooden building a long way from any fire service and great care needs to be exercised with any electrical appliances. Rubbish It is the responsibility of the hirer to remove all rubbish and left over items from the site. Rubbish bags for the removal of rubbish are supplied (remember ALL rubbish must be removed from the site - no burning or burying - you are in a Scenic Reserve). Scenic Reserve Please remember you are in a Scenic Reserve, please do not damage any trees, remove all rubbish and leave only footprints. The land adjacent to the Lodge is private property and permission should be sought from the O'Reilly Family before using any part of it. If you cross the land please be aware of stock and leave any gates as you found them. Guest access Drying Room There is a drying room provided (no persons are to sleep in this room under any circumstance). The dehumidifier in the room is available for use. Please ensure the discharge water is being collected in a bucket. Storeroom There is a store room downstairs for storing equipment- this is not a bunk room and no persons should enter or sleep in this area. Other things to note Health and Safety All users of the Lodge facilities will be required to be aware of and abide by all Lake Kaniere Lodge Trust Inc Health and Safety procedures. The Hirer is responsible for ensuring compliance of the people using the facilities. Telephone A telephone is available at the lodge but it is a radio link phone therefore subject to environmental influences and may not be relied upon. The Lodge has limited cellphone reception. Rapid (Rural Address Property Identification) Number: 771 Water Supply The water supply is from a stream at the back of the Lodge. The water supply is limited, especially in the summer months. Please conserve water where possible. If no water flows from the taps, check that the storage tank, on the tower behind the lodge, has water in it by turning on the outside tap.
