Vilano Beach is a quiet, laid-back neighborhood with an "old Florida" vibe. The local architecture is reminiscent of the Art Deco era in Florida that took place between 1923 and 1943. There aren't any high-rise condos or hotels looming overhead which lends to big views of the cloudless blue sky. The streets are lined with beautiful palms that sway in the ever present Atlantic breeze that blows across the barrier island. Other native flora are found in abundance along the dune line but most notably at nearby Guana State Park where there are many miles of trails for hiking and biking as well as kayak rentals. Take the kids to the Guana Reserve Visitor Center if you need a place to get out of the hot sun for a bit. Keep your exercise routing going by walking/running the Francis and Mary Usina Bridge. The bridge is one mile long each way. There is a boardwalk which begins at the northwest corner of the Publix parking lot that takes you to the base of the bridge. Distances runners can run "bridge to bridge" by running to the Lion's Bridge and back. In just under 10 minutes you can reach historic Saint Augustine by car and park in the Historic Downtown Parking Facility. There is even a water taxi that can be scheduled to pick you up from the Beaches Marina near the pier. Catch 33 is centrally located near the Vilano Beach Main Street. Here you have easy access to Publix, local seafood and pizza restaurants, the fishing pier and weekend farmer's market. Two pristine coquina beaches are available all year round. The Atlantic facing beach is closest in proximity to the house (150 yards) from the shoreline. The beach along the inlet is also a fabulous choice. Some families prefer it for more privacy. A beach wagon is available to make this choice a little easier to pull off with little ones. You will need a car to fully enjoy staying in the Vilano Beach area although it could be managed by using taxi/uber services. Parking is available for up to 2 cars at the property. Additional parking is available at the Vilano Beach Oceanfront Park. It's best to arrive by 9am for guaranteed parking. You are allowed to drive on the beach but it's $10/day. Please note: We heat the pool to 90F from mid October to mid April. If the temperatures in Saint Augustine drop below 60°, we cannot ensure that all guests will find the pool temperature comfortable enough to swim.
