The city is known for its proximity to the Napo River, a major tributary of the Amazon, and offers ample opportunities for rafting, kayaking, and other water activities. The surrounding jungle is home to countless species of plants and animals, and visitors can take guided hikes to see some of the region's incredible flora and fauna. We have networked with tons of local guides whom we can put in touch with, so you can make up the most of your time here. For those interested in culture and history, Tena is also home to several indigenous Kichwa communities, each with their own unique traditions and way of life. Visitors can learn about their customs, visit the Chakra (a traditional agroforestry system), taste their traditional food such as “maito de tilapia”, and purchase handmade crafts as souvenirs or a Kallari bar of 85% chocolate made from “fino de aroma” cocoa beans. In addition, Tena has a vibrant nightlife scene, with bars and clubs playing trending music and serving up refreshing drinks. The city also hosts several festivals throughout the year, celebrating everything from music and dance to agriculture and local commerce (“ferias”). As your host, I am dedicated to making your stay in Tena as enjoyable and memorable as possible. Whether you are seeking adventure, relaxation, or cultural experiences, my home is the perfect base from which to explore all the resources this incredible city has to offer. I look forward to welcoming you to Tena and sharing the magic of the Amazon with you.
