And just when you think you’ve seen it all, something new reveals itself. Here is our personal selection – thoughtfully curated, but by no means complete. We’re constantly adding to it. Coffee & Culture Café de Monte Alto – Coffee Roastery Just a few minutes outside of Jarabacoa, you can experience the full coffee-making process – from tree to cup. The guided tour ends with a tasting session at the on-site café. This family-run business has been cultivating coffee in the Cibao mountains since the 1940s. La Inmaculada Concepción Cathedral – La Vega An impressive piece of modern architecture with spiritual significance: Christ is depicted here not on the cross, but already resurrected. One of the largest churches in the Dominican Republic. La Vega Vieja – Archaeological National Park Near Santo Cerro, you’ll find the ruins of the first Spanish settlement in the Cibao Valley, founded by Christopher Columbus. Explore remains of the fort and settlement, and visit the small museum with artifacts from the Taíno people and early colonists. Nature & Hiking Salto de Baiguate A 25-meter waterfall cascading into a jade-green natural pool – perfect for a refreshing swim or a guided canyoning adventure. Easily reached by car in about 20 minutes. El Mogote – Mountain Hike A challenging yet rewarding hike to 1,163 meters. The trail leads through pine forest and coffee groves, ending with a lookout tower and panoramic views over Jarabacoa and Constanza. La Confluencia A scenic natural park where two rivers meet, forming small pools among the rocks. Great for picnics and swimming – only 10 minutes from downtown. La Cortina A hidden waterfall and natural pool just off the road to Manabao. A rustic restaurant across the street makes this a perfect spot for a spontaneous stop. El Arroyazo – Río Camú A crystal-clear swimming spot surrounded by emerald-green forest near the Ébano Verde scientific reserve. Best visited on weekdays to avoid crowds. Villages & National Parks La Ciénaga A beautiful riverside village along the Río Yaque del Norte. It’s a great place to experience authentic rural life and a starting point for hikes to Pico Duarte. Manabao & Boca de los Ríos A breathtaking mountain valley location with river access and picnic areas – just two minutes from the entrance to Armando Bermúdez National Park. Bring your own food and enjoy a peaceful day in nature. José del Carmen Ramírez National Park Lesser known but equally stunning, this park serves as an alternative gateway to Pico Duarte. Home to diverse wildlife and lush landscapes across three provinces. Las Pirámides – Valle Nuevo At 2,300 meters above sea level, a pyramid-shaped monument stands in this cold, high-altitude park known as “The Fridge of the Caribbean.” There’s also a small museum and a camping area for those looking to stay overnight. Culture & Festivals Jarabacoa Flower Festival – June A colorful weekend celebration featuring tropical flowers, crafts, music, and traditional food – held each year in the park across from Avenida La Confluencia. Santo Cerro – Pilgrimage Site According to legend, Columbus planted a cross here during his battles with the Taíno people. Today, the hilltop church Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes is the country’s most important pilgrimage site. On September 24th, Dominicans from all over visit to honor their patron saint. The viewpoint behind the church offers a stunning panorama of the Cibao Valley. Wellness & Relaxation Akasha Spa – Your Wellness Oasis A hidden gem in Jarabacoa. Sauna, pool, massages, and beauty treatments in a peaceful setting. Let us know and we’ll be happy to arrange a session for you.
