The Shippen barn for Crosby Beach and Liverpool

‘The Shippen’ is a barn conversion, once part of a small dairy farm. High beamed ceilings give a spacious, rustic feel, and the double sided log burner makes the living spaces cosy. A ‘home from home’ that many guests return to. Good base to explore the Sefton coastal towns from Crosby to Southport. Ideally located for Aintree racecourse, ‘Another Place’ at Crosby Beach and the many golf links courses. A short drive to Knowsley Safari Park and Aughton - Michelin Star capital of the North! The space The Shippen is a single-story converted barn, with 2 steps to access the front door. There are 2 bedrooms (one kingsize bed, one double), bathroom (with large walk in shower enclosure), kitchen/dining room and separate living room. The property has gas central heating, and the living room and kitchen share a double sided log burner for cosier heat. The high ceilings throughout make it feel bright and spacious. There is a small private enclosed patio that has a sunny aspect for your morning coffee and outdoor lighting for the evening. The property comes with 2 allocated off-street parking bays. More unrestricted on street parking is available next to property if required. For drivers of Electric Vehicles there are public charging stations around the corner just 1 minute walk from the property in the car park of the Nags Head Pub. Guest access Guests have exclusive use and access to the entire property, and full use of all amenities provided. To comply with Airbnb policy, only the number of guests booked for, are allowed to stay overnight, otherwise they will be asked to leave. Please contact us in advance of arrival, if you need to amend your number of guests from the original booking. 4 guests maximum. Third party bookings will not be accepted. Our daughter Emma started off this Airbnb listing for us, and did a fine job decorating and furnishing the place. Many positive reviews and returning guests later, she gained ‘Super-host’ status before moving south to start her career. My wife and I now host. We hope you enjoy our place as much as we do. May 2025, marked 2 years since starting our Airbnb and it has far exceeded our expectations, thanks to all our great guests who leave us wonderful reviews. We aim to continually improve our place for quality of bookings not quantity, hence our minimum 2 night stay policy. There is a ‘smart’ TV in the living room and a TV in the main bedroom. The SMEG range cooker has 2 electric ovens and a 5 burner gas hob so you can cook-up a storm! There’s a good selection of books, DVDs and some vinyl records so no excuse for getting bored. This is a great base to explore Liverpool, Anthony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ at Crosby Beach, Sefton and the coastal towns of Waterloo, Hightown, Formby, Ainsdale, Birkdale and Southport. For sports fans Aintree Racecourse, Waterloo Rugby Club, Marine Football Club, West Lancashire Golf Club are nearby. Anfield and Goodison are within easy reach. The nearest Merseyrail stations are located in Blundellsands/Crosby and from here you can access the whole of Merseyside and Chester. Convenient also for Knowsley Safari Park. Foodies note, Aughton is only 15 minutes away by car and is building a reputation for collecting Michelin stars! The nearest pub is the Nag’s Head, 2 minutes walk away, open every day, showing all the main sporting events. Just a little further on is The Grapes. Both serve ‘pub grub’ A good selection of bars, pubs and restaurants are nearby in Crosby, 1.5 miles away: So Salsa, Cicchetti (tapas), The Tree House, The Fat Italian and Liverpool Road Social (Sunday Roasts) are popular restaurants. Round Eight bar, The Coop micro pub. The Crows Nest is a traditional pub - small and friendly and serves a great pint of Theakstons. The Pheasant is an excellent gastro pub between Little Crosby and Hightown. The Sparrowhawk at the end of the Formby bypass is also a popular restaurant pub. The closest convenience shop is Tesco Express open 7am-11pm every day, 5 minute walk away and Aldi is just a little further. Opposite Aldi, The Thornton Fryer is the nearest for fish and chips. Good walks/Cycle Routes: Crosby beach (Anthony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ known locally as ‘The Iron Men’) and the coastal promenade between Crosby Marina in Waterloo and Hightown. The Bus Yard (seasonal in summer) and the Lake House at Crosby Marina are worth a visit and both serve food and drink. Footpaths nearby to the barn connect to Sefton Village where you can check out Ego at The Punchbowl Pub and Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve.
