Ainstable is a quiet little Cumbrian village with a local pub and restaurant and just over a mile away is Armathwaite, where you can jump on the Settle to Carlisle railway line, a really beautiful journey. The wonderful Cumbrian countryside is just waiting to be explored from the historical site of Hadrian’s Wall, with its rich history and dramatic landscape, to the majestic mountains and lakes of the Lake District National Park, a World Heritage Site. A short drive will take you over the border to Scotland, to the beautiful beaches of Dumfries and Galloway and the stunning Solway Coast. The beautiful border city of Carlisle is a short drive away or a scenic trip on the Settle to Carlisle railway line, where you can visit the castle or just take in some retail therapy at some of the high street shops.
