Amble only 4 miles, with a busy Sunday market and nice places to eat, and Alnwick is a 14-mile drive with the majestic castle featured in some Harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes. Over to the west, discover Hadrian’s Wall, or maybe have a day trip into the Northumberland National Park, with miles of forest around the huge reservoir.
