Description

Situated in the unique position of having it’s feet in Gunnerside Ghyll, totally detached and in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Debra Cottage abounds with character. Every room is a delight of bespoke joinery and high quality fittings. Built in 1793 and in the centre of Gunnerside Village, this cottage is an ideal base to explore and enjoy all the Yorkshire Dales has to offer. The sound of the river welcomes you as you step though the front door, but all is tranquil inside. The space Debra Cottage in lovely Swaledale, is a unique space, with three separate rooms downstairs and two upstairs. The cottage underwent a complete refurbishment in 2020-22 and has been welcoming guests ever since. Walk directly into the living room with its welcoming log fireplace and comfy sofa. A couple of nights of logs are provided. Please feel free to bring your own if you’d like. There is a smart TV, with regular terrestrial Freeview channels. You are also welcome to sign in with your own account to watch Netflix or other streaming services. There is a hand built breakfast bar-style dining area with leather chairs overlooking the river, plus a fold-out smaller table for evening board games or whatever your choice. A selection of local guide books, maps and board games are also provided. Off the living room is the small but fully equipped kitchen with induction hob, integrated oven, fridge and all the usual cooking equipment including a slow cooker. We also provide ground and instant coffee, tea bags and sugar. Through the kitchen is a fully kitted out utility room, with washing machine, freezer, microwave, drying rack, Belfast sink and additional downstairs WC. From the living room, the stairs take you up to the bedroom with a lovely view up Gunnerside Ghyll. The bedroom has a solid oak double bed with electric blanket and a large built-in hanging wardrobe. Through the bedroom is the light and airy bathroom with electric shower, extra large shower cubicle, basin cabinet, Demister mirror with shaver socket, infra-red heater with towel rail, hand-built shelving, WC and another lovely view into the Ghyll. The whole cottage has electric heating throughout. All towels, tea towels and linen are provided. Guest access Guests can access all spaces within the cottage. Two folding chairs are also provided for sitting outside in a sunny position of your choice. The space outside is common land and you are able to sit where you like. Please be aware of the proximity of the pub, which, in our experience to date, is not noisy at all. The property is also fitted with the highest quality timber double glazed sash windows. Other things to note There are quirky steps between each of the rooms as the cottage has been added onto over the centuries. The cottage actually sits on the river bank, but climbing down into it from the rear of the cottage is not recommended.
