Jungle Villa at Laguna de Apoyo
Relax and swing in the hammock enjoying the bird symphony, or get out and hike, bike, climb, swim, dive & paddle at the Laguna de Apoyo Natural Reserve! This spacious, modern, villa provides a unique and tranquil getaway. Enjoy amazing sunrises and incredible starry nights amidst birds, monkeys, and species of fishes that exist nowhere else on earth. Swim in the lagoon that is a volcanic lake. Hike to the volcanic rim town of Catarina, or mountain bike to Granada. The space If you want privacy and serenity in the jungle canopy with easy access to the lagoon; if you have a group and want to spend at least a couple of days at the lagoon; if you want to do some of your own cooking, and are able to climb steps and the access road, then this is the place for you! Two floor private villa at Laguna de Apoyo. The villa is .67km from the waterfront and about 80 meters rise above the access road. It was built in 2004 with stunning mahogany ceilings and has been recently remodeled with new appliances and renovated bathrooms. Rooms are lovingly equipped with handcrafted furniture, crafts, pottery, and paintings from local artisans. We provide guests with locally produced organic fair trade coffee from Fundacion Entre Mujeres, which promotes the empowerment of rural women through a variety of projects, and we provide locally produced soaps and honey from Frutesol, a company formed by Nicaraguan women entrepreneurs. We provide a small library with books about the history of Nicaragua and wildlife. We partner with a local guide whom guests can hire to lead birding and hiking excursions around the Laguna. The villa is an a community of villas at Apoyo Resort which has 24 hour security. Note the hotel business at Apoyo Resort is closed. All villas are privately owned. We recently (June 2024) installed two private parking spaces at the Jungle Villa and (August 2024) replaced the air conditioning units in the bedrooms so the bedrooms have working AC. There is no AC on the first floor. Guest access The lagoon is accessible through the La Vista restaurant when the restaurant is open. There is no day pass fee however the restaurant requires a minimum purchase per person. There is a public trail to the left of LaVista restaurant that leads to the laguna. All waterfront including in front of LaVista is public access. Other things to note Unfortunately, this villa is not easily accessible for people who are not able-bodied. There are steps to enter, and both bedrooms are on the second floor. We recently installed parking spaces at the villa to improve access. If you are a responsible traveler who cares about sustainable tourism you will be comfortable here. We have a recycling policy to encourage environmental sustainability. Composting of limited food waste is available on site, as is recycling containers for metal, plastic, paper, and glass. We ask guests prioritize minimizing waste when deciding what consumables they buy and bring into Laguna de Apoyo.
